I was reading the Boston Herald this morning (Dana, UFC article)

Quote:

While UFC president Dana White has his sights set on expanding the organization to all corners of the globe, he is still determined to make a stop in Boston.

White, who lived in Boston in the 1990s, has been talking about bringing the UFC to the Hub for years. The major hurdle is that mixed martial arts in Massachusetts is not regulated by the UFC’s rules. White has faced similar roadblocks in other states and has managed to get UFC events sanctioned.

“We’re real confident that we’re going to have this thing done,” White said, hoping TD Banknorth Garden will host an event by early 2009. “I wanted to be in by the end of the year, but it’s looking like it will be after this year. It’s coming to pass, no doubt about it.”

As more local fighters have reached the upper-echelon of the UFC, they have voiced their desire to be involved in a card in Boston. One scenario that would seem ideal for the UFC would be a headline fight involving Dover’s Kenny Florian.

If Florian wins his August fight against Roger Huerta, he would be in line for a lightweight title shot against B.J. Penn.

There’s hope for a Hub fight night soon - BostonHerald.com

Boston would be a huge market ( especially with NY not sanctioning MMA for the moment )

I do not see a problem with the UFC getting a fight in Boston. The rules in Massachuettes are a lot like the rules in Pride in being one of the only states that allows stomps and knees to the head. So in that aspect I do not think it should be that hard to get a fight in Boston.

Fuck Boston. They need to bring a Fight Night to Halifax

FUCK YEA!! lol I live in Saint John and the 4 hour drive would go by some fucking quick. They've had some lower tier orgs do shows in Hali but unfortunatly i couldn't catch them. I dont think I'd even really care who was on the card, I'd be going.

Bias aside, getting the UFC into Boston and MA would be a no brainer. It's always been a huge fight town and the surrounding area only gave us one of boxings all time greats

On a separate note - I know MMA is not regulated/allowed in Ontario and I was wondering what is the situation with NS?

ECC is the Hali promotion, they're pretty decent, Jason Day and Jason MacDonald both fought for them right before making the UFC. I went to ECC 3 and it will pretty sweet, we got there before most people to see the prelims and ended up getting some of the best seats for 35 bucks general admission, lolz

Anyway, UFC should seriously consider it, they could sell out the Metro Centre:

Quote:

Halifax Metro Centre
Location 1800 Argyle Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia
Opened February 1978
Owner Trade Centre Limited

Capacity Hockey: 10,595
Basketball: 11,000
Concerts: up to 15,000
And yes, its fully sanctioned in Nova Scotia
