Chonan Possibly Out Of PRIDE Welterweight Grand Prix?
After an impressive first round win, an eye injury may force Ryo Chonan out of the PRIDE Welterweight Grand Prix.
The 29 year old Chonan scored a split decision victory over hard hitting Greg Jackson fighter Joey "The Dreamsmasher" Villasenor on June 4th, in their quarterfinal bout of the 2006 PRIDE Welterweight Grand Prix. Chonan noted in his postfight interview with the media that following the interview, he would be off to the hospital for the first time in his career after a fight. It is now rumored that Chonan has suffered a fractured right orbital bone which came as a result of a foot stomp that Villasenor threw in the dying second of their bout. Chonan is not the only fighter to reportedly have suffered an injury of this nature, as Makoto Takimoto has suffered a broken orbital bone as well. Takimoto's injury has been confirmed, and he has been given a timetable of three months for recovery.
