Bisping Looking To Stand Up With Leben.
Source:The MMA News
Even though Michael Bisping won his last fight against Jason Day in convincing manor, the UFC’er isn’t necessarily happy with his performance. When UFC 89 takes place in London, England on October 18th, Bisping is hoping the two stay on their feet and have an old fasioned throw down. Here’s the quote:
“I want to go out and show my skills, my last fight hit the ground too much – he (Jason Day) gave me the opportunity to take him down, and he couldn’t handle the ground-and-pound…. Your next fight is always your biggest fight, you’re only as good as your last fight, so yeah this is the biggest fight of my life. I’m not gonna go more cautious because it’s Chris Leben. I’ll do what I normally do, look to stand on the feet and set the pace. It’s the same in every fight, you assess the situation, play it by ear, punches get thrown –- and hopefully we’ll get the stand-up brawl we all want.”
While this fight won’t propel, or rather shouldn’t propel, either fighter to #1 Contender status, this fight should set up a one more win and title shot for both. Bisping has looked good at 185, and Leben is a legitimate test for him, though many MMA insiders are hoping to see a Rich Franklin vs. Michael Bisping matchup in the future. In any case, The MMA News will bring you all the latest on UFC 89.

I think if Bisping was smart he would try to take this one to the ground. I know he has a good solid jaw and can take some punishment, but I really do think he is underestimating Lebens power. I think once he gets hit once or twice really good we will see a whole new game plan come on, and he will go for the takedown.

I definetly agree there, Leben has that retard strength especially once he gets hurt once ot twice, with the exception of when Silva beat the ever living piss out of him, but I think since that fight and his time in jail he has matured alot, and seems to try to use his head for more then cushioning during a fight.

The only thing I can hope for in this fight is the ol' so elusive double KO.

As bad ass as that would definetly be I do not think Bisping has that kind of KO power atleast not against Leban, he is more of a pick you a part puncher.

Bisping cannot KO Leben.
Best chance is the ground.

Any time a guy says "I'm gonna keep it on the feet, but if it goes to the ground, that'll be OK too, but the main goal is to stay on the feet" they usually go for the takedown in the first minute.
My guess is the first time Bisping lands a huge hook, and Leben walks right through it, he'll switch to the clinch game. Once Leben shakes off a solid knee, Bisping will certainly go to the ground. But Leben's JJ game has improved. If Bisping's not careful, Leben might catch him.

Bisping has become deadly (at 185lbs) with his knees and Leben has been open to knee strikes in the past. That being said, I think that if Bisping looks to stand and brawl he will be counting the lights in no time

All I know is that it's going to be a great fight.
I can see Bisping landing a few solid shots on Leben in the opening minutes, only to fire up Leben and he unleashes. Will it be enough? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
But if I were to choose who would win, I think Leben. Unless Bisping takes it to the ground, I don't think he has a chance. He's a good striker, but Leben chin is much better.

Putting this into words I can understand.
I agree completely with this comment. Leben is a world class striker and Bisping is a 'pick and punish' fighter. I personally think that if Bisping tries to stand and bang with Leben, it will only add fuel to the fire and will prolong an inevitable KO.
