Default Shogun Had Knee Surgery Again

Five Ounces of Pain | Shogun’s possible return

Quote:
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has been out of action since his September 2007 loss to Forrest Griffin. Shogun had knee surgery shortly after the fight.Apparently, the operation didn’t clear up all the problems.

Shogun just had another knee surgery,” said Dana White.

Not knowing exactly what the surgery is for, it’s hard to speculate how bad Shogun’s knee is, but what White said next is definitely positive news for Shogun fans.

I believe Shogun will back this fall.”

Should Shogun get back into the octagon in a few months, the leading candidate for an opponent may very well be Sokoudjou. Sokoudjou challenged Shogun shortly after defeating Kazuhiro Nakamura at UFC 84. The fight would seem to make sense for both fighters as a way to elevate one of the them into the title picture. The loser would have some work to do to rebuild himself, but it probably wouldn’t end their UFC run.

Yea to all of you who think his knee wasn't really a problem when fighting Forrest. How about this news.

I think his cardio was a bigger issue than his knee... Hands down early round II is a bad sign...

What's the harm in saying he just took Forrest lightly and didn't train to his fullest?

Shogun wasn't the only one hurt, Forrest hurt his shoulder.

Yea and they still haven't said what kind of shoulder injury it is till this day. What if it was bone spurs!! Whaaaa!! Plus you don't see him having to keep going in to get it fixed. It is obvious which injury was more severe.

It's hard to have good cardio with a knee that's bugging you and keeping you from training with everything you got.

I hate to say this because I'm a really big fan of Shogun, but I think he's done as an elite fighter. I don't feel that way because of him getting old, but knee injuries, especially ones that take you out of action for so long, tend to nag you the rest of your life especially athletes.

I just don't see him returning to being the same dominant guy he was before and that's why it pissed me off Sokodjou called him out. It will sicken me to see Sokodjou go into a fight with Shogun knowing that knee is keeping him from stomping a mud hole in "the Predator" and Sokodjou building a name off a less than stellar Shogun.

I'll use Daunte Culpepper as an example. In 2005, Culpepper was one of the best 5 QB's in the NFL. He blew out his ACL in a game with the Panthers in October 04. Sept. 06 he started the first game of the season playing for the Miami Dolphins. After only a handful of games, the knee wasn't holding up so he had surgery again that again ended his season. Then he signs with the Raiders in 07 and again injuries plagued him all year long. After the season, they didn't resign him and as of right now, he still hasn't signed with a team.

I hope I'm wrong but I get the feeling that our memories of him in the Pride days will have to suffice.

.
That's assuming that was his motivation, I believe he took some extended time off from training because he was getting married and such...

It's not a slight against Shogun, it's just a quality of life issue, and it's been that way with a lot of fighters... but I think in this case he just underestimated Forrest...

Now a days you can't take that chance with anyone, if someone can't beat you on raw talent there's always a chance they can beat you by out-pacing or out-conditioning you...

I think he is reinjuring it by not listening to doctors. I had knee surgery for the exact same thing he did and mine was fucked. It took one surgery and I have rehabbed it exactly the way the doctor says. Guess what? 1 surgery and a scope a few weeks later. Thats it. He is being stupid trying to go hard on it when he shouldn't be for at least 7-10 months.

I still have a weak knee. As far as him fighting on it,before I had the surgery I could do tons of things on it. I had pain, but I could do cardio and train basically full on. The only thing i couldn't do was squats and leg press. So everyone using that as an excuse against forrest is BS. My doctor is one of the top surgeons in the US. He said my knee was probably the top 3 worse he had ever seen.Shogun is going to end his career if he keeps trying to come back early.

My knee is worse after surgery than it was before (weakness wise) if he would rehab it right he would be fine.My knee is getting stronger every day,but I will not rush it until it is fully there I won't risk hurting it again.

I still have to laugh at this 'oh he's done' or that he's 'fallen off the radar'

The guy lost ONE fight to the guy that is now the champ.

Fickle much?
