| Report: Stout vs. Etim at UFC 89 Quote:
Report: Sam Stout to meet Terry Etim at UFC 89
According to his trainer Shawn Tompkins, Canadian Sam Stout (13-4-1 MMA, 2-3 UFC) will meet British fighter Terry Etim (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at UFC 89, an event set for Oct. 18 in Birmingham, England.
The Fight Network today reported the match-up.
The booking is the latest for a U.K. fight card that features a main event of Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben.
Stout, who previously was rumored to be fighting Paul Kelly, will instead meet Etim, a fighter who debuted with the UFC in 2007 with a 9-0 record. He scored a submission victory over Matt Grice in his octagon debut, but he's since suffered losses to Gleison Tibau and Rich Clementi.
Stout, meanwhile, will look to rebound from his split-decision loss to Clementi in April at UFC 83. The defeat dropped his UFC record to 2-3, though according to the report, Stout recently earned a four-fight contract extension with the organization.
Stout, the current TKO lightweight champion, will go for his fifth victory in his past seven fights.

I see Stout taking it, better striking and with Terry Etim's build I just can't see him having effective takedowns. Maybe trips from the clinch but I still see Stout winning a decision

Not a bad fight IMO. Ive always been a fan of stout, call it canadian bias if you want
I see Stout picking him apart on the feet, where i think stouts got the advantage, if it goes to the ground(where Etim most likely wants it) Stout isnt a complete slouch on the ground, if he can avoid the subs, he should be able to pull of the KO/TKO if not get a Decision
Another ok fight for an ok card

It features Diego Sanchez vs. Thiago Alves (two top-7 welterweights in the world), Bisping vs. Chris Leben (two UFC top-10 MWs), Paul Kelly vs. Marcus Davis (UFC top-12 or so WW), and the always-exciting Sam Stout against Terry Etim.
That's before they add any other fights to the card.
Those fights alone put this in the top probably 25% of free MMA cards you'll ever see.
MMA fans are fickle as hell and demanding as hell. You aren't going to see PRIDE 33 or UFC 76 or Affliction Banned every month, and it's not going to be on free TV every month.
Sorry, didn't mean to direct it solely at you. There are so many fans that are ready to torpedo a card that doesn't make the 95th percentile for quality, and who make me wonder why they actually like MMA.

Everyone complains way too damn much. This card has some damn exciting fights on it and it is going to be FREE. I personally can't wait for the Bisping/Leben fight and the Sanchez/Alves fight. Yeah the card doesn't have any super #1 in their division guys but this is a pretty damn good card for a free show.

Again I don't mean to make these comments about just jhell (so again, sorry jhell, this isn't solely directed at you), but...it's been a fascinating observation to me for some time.
There are a LOT of MMA fans that like to post on forums about how weak, boring, uninteresting this or that card is, and who feel the need to announce that they "have no intentions of watching this card" or that they'll "be skipping this card". I mean every damn card you see a fair amount of this stuff.
Do these guys actually like MMA at all? Do they only like the 95th percentile, like I said earlier, and everything else is uninteresting ("mediocre", to use jhell's word) to them?
Or do they just think it's fashionable to appear so blase about MMA that you are willing to torpedo just about every card? Do they think it's somehow a sign of weakness to show that they are looking forward to a card?
I truly don't get it. If it were just a guy here and there or just happened now and then, it wouldn't be worth talking about, but it's such a widespread phenomenon that to me, it makes me question why exactly these guys watch or follow the sport.
