Maybe, but I don't think so. They are two completely different style fighters.

Silva fights to finish you and isn't an evasive fighter. He comes at you and tries to put you in his clinch, if possible, and break your nose with a knee.

Machida on the other hand dodges most of your strikes, but rarely counter strikes. When he does strike you, he is in and out very quickly - no more than 3 hit combos typically. He doesn't come after you, he waits more for you to screw up and then scores points on you.

Its the difference in elusiveness that make Machida more likely to fall once someone shows how it is done.

Forrest beat Shogun and Rampage. He beat the 2 number 1 fighters at the time.

People are not going to give him respect and i see that now.

If he fights Chuck next and beats him, Forrest still will not earn or get respect from some people.

If he beats Lyoto, the same thing goes.

Right now Forrest is number 1 at 205. No has a better claim at number 1 then Forrest.

Will Forrest defend the title once, idk i would guess not, but the point is he still beat who he beat to get the title.

I remember back then not many gave Matt Serra the Forrest benefit of the doubt when it came to the whole "cream of the crop" conversation. He was behind GSP even after he beat him and he was behind Hughes in most people's rankings even though he was champ.

Where's the equality in that?

I guess what it all boils down to in the end is matter of opinion. In most cases when comparing fighters, you can't really say who's "better" than who. If you look at it from a ranking standpoint, then this whole thread is pointless. Everybody who is the champ will be ranked number 1, and that is that.
But if you look at it from a overall skill standpoint, then the arguements continue.

It was the same thing when Serra beat GSP. Everybody knew he wasn't the best WW in the division. So if this question was asked at that time, everybody would have debated the fact that Serra is the cream of the crop. (which everybody knows in fact he is not).
With Forrest its up in the air. It all depends on how is next couple of fights to go really cement his spot.
