Urijah Faber vs. Mike Brown, Paulo Filho vs. Chael Sonnen, and Mark Munoz vs. Steve Steinbeiss set to headline Sept. 10 WEC event
July 16, 2008 By: Sam Caplan Category: Paulo Filho, Urijah Faber, WEC
After the WEC announced several months ago that its Aug. 3 event in Las Vegas would be headlined by three title defenses, it was thought that following up the Summer fight card would be a tough act to top. With preliminary plans coming into place for its Wednesday, September 10 event, it appears as if the Zuffa-owned fight promotion might have outdone themselves.
The event, which is expected to take place in Hollywood, Fla. at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, already was slated to feature a WEC middleweight title rematch between incumbent Paulo Filho and challenger Chael Sonnen.
However, Filho vs. Sonnen II will not be the night’s main event, as Sherdog.com’s Loretta Hunt reported late Tuesday that the camps for both WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber and number one contender Mike Brown have confirmed that the two are set to fight each other on the Sept. 10 show.
Also slated for the fight card is former NCAA champion and Oklahoma State amateur wrestling standout Mark Munoz. According to a report by MMAWeekly.com, Munoz will face former K-1 and BodogFIGHT competitor Steve Steinbeiss.
The televised portion of the card is expected to be rounded out by a lightweight matchup between former WEC lightweight champion “Razor” Rob McCullough and up-and-coming star Donald Cerrone. The winner of the fight could be named the new number one contender for the WEC lightweight title.
While not confirmed, Jens Pulver and Tim McKenzie have both been rumored for the card as well.

Looks like a bad ass card already, I think Sonnen takes the title this time for sure.

I'm gonna go with Faber and I think Sonnen just because I don't think Filho is gonna train as hard and hasn't conquered all his problems yet. I don't know enough about the other fighters on the card to predict anything.

Hope Filho wins. By stunning fucking knockout - I do not like Chael Sonnen. I want him to just dissapear.
Urijah vs. Mike Brown should be good. Looking forward to seeing Mark Munoz again. Great card, as always with the WEC.

Faber wins this easily. seriously, Jens gave Faber his toughest fight to date! i dont see Mike Brown giving Faber any fits out there. sure anything can happen, but it wont happen on this night.

Good card, filho/sonnen will be good. I think sonnen gave it his all in that first fight and it wasnt good enough, I think filho will come ready this time and win again.

Brown has wins over Jeff Curran, Yves Edwards and Mark Hominick so he won't be a pushover for Faber. But I have no doubt that Faber wins this fight.
Mark Munoz is definitely somebody to watch out for in the future. One of the best wrestlers at 205 now, with brutal Ground N' Pound. He still has to round out the rest of his game but he's definitely on the way up.

(admits to being a Faber nut-hugger at the outset)
I don't care who Faber fights, his finishes are great to watch no matter the opponent.
