I see what you are saying, and it's true in a lot of cases. There are many MMA fans that have been following MMA for years and think that they are better than the new fans because they saw Pride 10 when it happened or because they have more MMA knowledge. In the end it won't matter, after 10 years when MMA has been around for a while, the new fans will have just as much knowledge and the fighters that only few know about now will be gone. Everyone will be on more of a even level on knowledge. You can't keep a MMA fan down.

it isnt about knowledge, it's about respect. You get people who boo a fight simply because it goes to the ground. Those "fans" dont view MMA as a sport, but rather a fight and they expect a fight to be nothing but punches and knockouts. Those fans are simply looking for a violence fix rather than appreciating a sport.

But you can't generalize like that. I'm a "new fan". I got into the sport after watching TUF 1. I now train at an MMA gym and follow it as close as I can. You would not, however, see me booing during a ground game or when a fighters are gassed..it's part of the sport. And I know plenty of "new fans" who are the same way.

I used to watch the old UFC's back in the day...but it was not a sport at the time. More of a spectackle. The only reason that MMA can be considered a sport is because of the "new fans". The "new fans" are the only reason that state athletic commissions are sanctioning it. It's money.

MMA - "New Fans" = No Money to be Made
No Money to be Made = no sanctioning.

so through transative property: No "New Fans" = No sanctioning

No sanctioning = no "Sport"

it was sanctioned long before a TUF episode aired.

I second that I think it is disgusting the way the fans boo fighters, with particular reference to the way they booed Forrest after Griffin/Bonnar 2, it may not have been the rip roaring classic that the first match was but it was a good fight.

That's not what I'm saying. I only mention TUF because that's when I started following MMA.

My point is that some "OG" MMA fans act stuck up just because "they heard of it first"

And besides...it was sanctioned in Nevada. Nevada would sanction beheadings if the state could make some revenue.

Because of the "new fans" we're seeing other normal states begin to sanction the sport. Eventually MMA will be bigger and more accepted than boxing. And this is because of "new fans"

It's not the new fans it is the way the UFC is marketing it. You even said you came in on TUF 1 which deduces it back to marketing because you probably would not be a new fan if the show did not take place. MMA fights have been like this for a while now and it was before the new onslaught of fans. But I do love you guys because you make it better to be a fighter and now they make more money.

I probably would of went for it harder if I know I could make a buck at it then. So I do like you new fans for that and I must say thank you.
