He was probably just nervous, first fight since the start of the year, against a feared striker.

just thought I'd through this out there, but if you look at the fight, you can see that after the knee that broke his nose and he stumbles backwards, the next 4 shots that Silva threw don't even connect. It was as though Franklin just wanted this over with and those shots were a way of doing so.

Franklin has too much class to take a dive. Maybe he knew he was in over his head after seeing Leben getting taken out, who knows....but I'm sure this won't be the end of him. He'll be back.

ok im not takin anything away from silva he's one tough guy ....but after watchin the fight again franklin was holdin back tears.....his parents were there for the first time (probably to support him losing the title) wife or girlfriend was upset and he did look to have broken ribs butttt........fighters get hurt all the time maybe he got injured and had to fight still and didn't want to,thats why he was upset or......looking at the payouts and recent ufc rematches and the fact that none in the middleweights can beat franklin or silva.......they now set up a rematch for the big money match...meaning he took a dive....or was forced to. he did get his ass beat hard tho the knee to the face was uncalled for if he was takin a dive tho. i dunno but sumthin was wrong.

I specifically remember that as well.
the problem was that Rich knew there was a great deal of hype surroundign him, that is why I hate Dana White and his antics. Rich was a great striker on a UFC level but Silva is on a professional K-1 kickboxing level. None of UFC's america fighters posess this striking quality and Rich knew A. Silva did. I'm sure he watched all of Silva's fights, even the Chonan fight and knew he was in for a huge test.
He looked like Franklins normal opponents do when he fights them as he was being side-stepped and was punching air, it was very difficult to land the one punch he did and after that, it pissed Silva off and he went into phycho mode and Rich was scared, you can see the fear in his eys in the pictures, he was scared and he was hurt.
He was a poster boy, they put way too much pressure on these fighters but if the opponents originate from the UFC (or have average training) Rich will look like Fedor does in his fights as far as dominance and that is exactly what he had been doing. When UFC brought in a world class fighter (very well rounded, much more than just a striker) with his training background, it changed everything. We saw how easily he handled Leben and Leban was 14-0 and people were thinking he was going to be a contender in the near future.
A chin and heavy hands have been taking UFC fighters very far but if UFC continues to pickup world class fighters with extensive training backgrounds, the champions will continue to be exposed. Chuck vs a Brazilian or Russian (you know who they are, there are 4 brazilians and 2 russians) or even rampage (especially in a cage) the outcome would likely be very similar though the dominance would likely not be the same as Chuck has defeated som very impressive fighters but then again, only 1 striker and it was Vitor and he wasn't exactly a consistant fighter to say the least.
My point is that UFC ius beefing these guys up far too much and if they continue to make international acquisitins, we will see more of the same, American champions falling to world class fighters.

| Franklin
I was wondering what was going on with Franklin before hand also. It looked as if he did not have the "fire" in his eyes before the fight, like he usually does. A group of us were watching and we were wondering what was going on with him, how he received his black eye (the one he had when he entered the ring), and why was his wife was so upset before the fight even begun. I am glad that A. Silva won, but I was suprised.......but it was well earned!

I just want to say, because I have commented already on this..."Rich was injured", "Something wasn't right" conspiracy theory people keep using. This one...about the dive has to be the most ridiculous one i've heard yet. I think it's a slap in the face to silva and to rich franklin. You honestly think he took a dive? Think about what your saying. I know if I were going to take a dive I sure as hell wouldn't get my nose broken like that, why take so much punishment if he were taking a dive? That's the point. You take a dive when you get in there, get out, and get your money. Not get in, get your bones broken and get clearly knocked out. How ridiculous.

That's really gay of you to even make an accusation that Franklin took a dive. UFC has nothing to gain out of that, it would take 8+ months for Franklin to heal and be in fighting shape again and work his way back up to title contention.
And by your theory that would mean that UFC would rather have a Brazilian, Portugese speaking champion that the fans hate as they ONLY like American fighters. and boo everything else.
20+ knees to the body (likely a broken rib or 2) and a nastily broken nose and you think he "took a dive"?
And yes, something was wrong, he got danced on, punched air, landed a straight left that did not hurt Silva and really pissed him off so he ran in, locked up a clinch, proceeded to land 20+ knees to the body, a knee to the chin, a knee to the nose which broke it, a high kick to the face and finally another knee to the face.
YES I WOULD SAY SOMETHING WAS WRONG.... and it will require surgery to fix it.

Something definitely was going on with Franklin. It is called over confidence.
That coupled with not fighting since destroying his hand against Loiseau is a bad combination. Silva took it to him. That funny look on Franklin's face is aa common side effect of getting your ass kicked by someone you completely underestimated.
