It depends how there contract is written... If it is stated that for fight one they will get $800,000 amount and for each fight after that they will get $800,000/2 then they have no right to complain because they signed the contract.

Now, if there contract stated that they will fight 3 fights at a rate of $800,000 then they can complain, because Affliction is not living up to there end of the contract.

So, how many people think Affliction will last to a 4th show?

I think they might have signed some of these guys yo just a 1 fight contract and will now offer them a second contract worth less. In which case, I personally would be offended as hell.

Affliction’s Gravy Train Coming to an End

(The Maine-iac may go from being grossly, grossly overpaid, to just grossly overpaid. Photo courtesy of Tim-Sylvia.com.)

Dave Meltzer is reporting that Affliction VP Tom Atencio will be asking certain Affliction fighters to take a pay cut to fight in their next event (October 11th, Las Vegas):

The promotion has talked with some fighters about doing the 10/11 show for 50% of what they made on the first show but in return they would give those fighters easy opponents.

Overpaid fighters who could use an easier opponent the next time out? They might as well have called Tim Sylvia out by name — though Ben Rothwell and Matt Lindland could fit that description as well. For the record, Josh Barnett has stated that he would not accept a pay cut to fight again for Affliction; he previously made $300,000 with no win bonus for his knockout of Pedro Rizzo.

BloodyElbow also points out that the Thomas & Mack Center’s Affliction page lists Affliction II’s main event as “Arlovski vs. TBD!” — suggesting that the return of Fedor Emelianenko might not be a done deal after all. Well sure, I mean he just went 36 seconds with one of the top ten heavyweights in the world; the man could use another three-year break…

I sure that Affliction made a loss for their first show even though Trump is backing them and how can wackass Sylvia make 800k what a joke he should take a pay cut not Barnett.

Dana kind of called this one. He said that they (Affliction) don't yet know what they don't know yet about fight promoting. I think this is a good example.

Bait and switch is right. But you don't need names to make good fights. No names with skills having quality fights with good production value is highly entertaining. Some of the best fights I have ever seen I didn't see coming.

Trump isn't backing them. Instead he is just promoting them (in other words attaching his name to the product). He isn't providing any actual money.

The only guiy I know for sure that has signed a multi fight contract is Lindland. I said you can't know how they will do until they sign guys to multi fight deals instead of one fight mega deals that will draw any free agent to fight in their event.

While I admire what Barnett is doing in protest, he should take the pay cut to stay with Affliction. He's a top 5 HW that is a virtual unknown to the general MMA public and has been toiling away in obscurity for the past few years since Pride went under.

It's not like Affliction is just wanting to pay people less. They just want to be viable until they get a following going.

His hate and vitriol for the UFC should be motivation enough to stay with Affliction. He doesn't have a lot of options with DREAM highlighting the lower weight classes thus far. Elite is on the verge of going under.

If Affliction can't afford to pay him, there may not be any other viable options for him unless he's willing to kiss Dana's ass or go back to Sengoku and be seen by very few North American fans.

The sad thing, to me, is that so many people on this board almost seem like they want the only promotion to put on a truly exciting HW card in years to fail immediately. That's BS in my book. Fans of the sport should be supporting such an endeavor. Even if you hate Affliction shirts or Tom Attencio, you should at least appreciate their obvious attempt to provide the casual fan with an option to watching a promotion with 1-2 truly viable HW fighters.

I am on the fence with your suggestion. Barnett hasn't really been absent from mma for very long. The man had 7 or 8 fights in 2006 and said he needed a break so he took 07 off.

I think what he is really pissed about is not fighting Fedor. Barnett imo has a far better shot at beating Fedor than Randy, AA or Cro Cop. but yet he won't likely get a shot until Randy or AA or even maybe CC fights him first.

He could come to the ufc and easily be top 2. (Nog and Barnett can't be any closer imo) If he came to the ufc, he would be a fan favourite because he is great on the mic and would be a perfect, i'll say it again perfect coach on TUF
