his KO on Rizzo was awesome, coming out of Pride he just had 2 fights against Nog and pretty much went to a draw w/ him, he's proved he's Top 5easy and the HW division is the way for Affliction to be successful, they need Barnett around, so keep him happy (along with a few others)

guys who fought like shit should get their payday dropped a bit
Okay, Okay I just re-watched his fight w/ Rizzo......and it was definitely impressive (seeing that Rizzo has been doing pretty good as of late)........but.....I'll be interested to see what the PPV buys were for the fight, to see the actual exposure Barnett got. I COMPLETELY agree w/ you though. Barnett IMO is worth every dime he makes but the company attitude surely is opposite....for now.

I don't know the whole story but I will tell you what I do know.

Barnett beat Couture by TKO due to Strikes at UFC 36 to win the HW belt. However, he failed a drug test and was stripped of the belt. He never fought in the UFC again.

I'm sure somethings were said in between but fast forward to Randy coming out of retirement and beating Sylvia for the belt. Barnett says some things about Couture being a UFC puppet and Dana's paper champion. I don't know exactly what Dana said back but it was pretty much some of the same stuff he says about Fedor and Tito. It's basically anyone who isn't in the UFC isn't as good as people make them out to be. Barnett hates Dana, and vice versa.

I've been following the UFC hardcore since UFC 46 which was 2004 and then started getting into other MMA when the UFC started to decline right around the TUF era started. I caught up some on what I missed but I still don't know all the details.

Yes Dimson, I, like you, used to think that the UFC was the only MMA worth watching. Boy was I wrong. Once the UFC ran all of their competition into the ground, their PPVs got stale. See almost the entire UFC 70s catalog and even some in the 50s and 60s. It wasn't until the last year or so with smaller orgs popping up and giving the UFC some competition that they have stepped their game back up. Pride was much better but they had some corruption that ruined their television deal and like the IFL, that doomed them. That allowed the UFC to pay them some money to get them out of the hole and obtain their rosters. Almost every elite fighter in the UFC right now was a Pride fighter and the UFC elites of that time are now in Affliction. Funny huh? Lindland, Belfort, Arlovski, Barnett, Sylvia, the list goes on and on. By the end of the year, we could see Couture and Ortiz there as well.

In Barnett's case though, without the UFC or Affliction, he kind of fades back into obscurity. If Affliction fails, it's going to be hard for Barnett because his UFC bridge is burned and Elite isn't likely to last long either. He'd probably go back to Sengoku but that has almost no following in the US. There's always DREAM but they focus on alot of the smaller weight classes right now. That's why I think he should take the pay cut and be happy.

Coy,

I think it is very ironic that you being the football fan that you are put so much stock into these older fighters. How do you not draw the comparisons that Tito Ortiz is the Trent Dilfer of MMA? I won't say that Randy is the Favre or Montana of MMA, but surely some comparisons have to be made as far as the guys that are getting over the hill, but still want to compete, yet not at the same level as before, yet at a high price tag based on what they did in the past.

Couture, Lindland, Belfort, Sylvia, Ortiz. The one thing that stands out about the bunch is that the UFC actually wanted to keep Randy. The rest of them they let go. The argument could even be made that they let AA go to.

Factor in that the premise of this whole thing is that Affliction pulled a bait and switch with fighters salaries. Now how long do you think word will take to get around amongst fighters on that?
