| EliteXC Announces Four 1-Hour Specials for FSN EliteXC Announces Four 1-Hour Specials for FSN - Bloody Elbow Quote:
EliteXC and FSN (Fox Sports Net) have formally announced an agreement to air four 1-hour MMA specials beginning in mid-September. The shows will air on Sundays at 9PM, and as previously speculated, parent company ProElite will be utilizing their multiple brands and will include "vintage fights" from promotions like King of the Cage and Cage Rage alongside showcase fights for current EliteXC stars such as Kimbo Slice and Frank Shamrock. Similar to FSN's PRIDE specials, Jay Glazer and Frank Trigg will host.
From today's press release: Quote:
EliteXC, the only MMA organization to be broadcast live in primetime on network television, has developed a stacked lineup of some of MMA’s top stars. The FSN EliteXC telecasts will showcase many of these elite MMA names, including internet sensation Kimbo Slice, MMA legend Frank Shamrock, EliteXC Lightweight Champion KJ Noons and Phil “The New York Bad Ass” Baroni. In addition, the telecasts will feature vintage bouts of other MMA stars, including Anderson “Spider” Silva and Uriah “the California Kid” Faber, from earlier in their careers when they fought in in ProElite-owned, King of the Cage and Cage Rage events.
“Our mission from day one with ProElite and EliteXC has been to showcase the incredible talent and excitement of our fighters and illustrate that the appetite of the growing legions of MMA fans can’t be satisfied by merely a single organization,” said ProElite’s Doug DeLuca. “FSN has a well-known history of success with MMA, and this partnership is another important step in developing an even stronger fan base for the exciting brand of MMA that ProElite delivers through EliteXC and our other organizations like King of the Cage, Cage Rage, Icon Sport, SpiritMC and Rumble on the Rock.”

LOL at the people who made the press release not even spelling Urijah's name right. And it's pretty sad that they have to dig up old KOTC footage of Silva and Faber on a show.

Agreed, funny in a way.
Can't be bad though, for their popularity or for the expansion of MMA.
Wouldn't mind to have those old Faber and Spider fights air on free TV.
Very encouraging the exposure that MMA continues to get. It's a process, it's a progression toward a threshold of familiarity and comfort that will be reached.

Yeah, you have a point. But on the other hand they are showing fights that are years old of two of the best fighters in the world because they really don't have anyone else of that caliber to put on their show besides maybe Le or Shammy. The fact that they have to go back through old footage due to the lack of quality fights w/ in their own org (Elite) is sad. It's cool for the fans who want to see it, but I'm guessing a lot of people will tune in and wonder why the show has a bunch fights from seemingly random and different mma orgs.

At least proelite is doing something with their Library more than what the UFC has done with Pride.

Also I like to see some old Cage Rage fights, every MMA fan must see Tony Fryklund versus Anderson Silva and the Cyborg Santos/Melvin Manhoef fights.

It is a shame that the UFC won't use the Pride clips for anything other than small fighter HL's for the build up to shows.
Maybe they don't want to spend the time and resources to promote a show that doesn't further the UFC brand. Almost like they do it to protect there own product, if that makes sense. If that's not the reason, than I don't know what it would be.

It's been fun to watch this evolve , and being a geezer , I go way back . (using the way-back machine , I flash over memories of me as
a young dog watching boxing on Wide World of Sports once in a blue moon,
or a once -in-a-lifetime trip with dad to watch a closed-circuit showing of Ali/Frazier in .... 1973 or thereabouts. There was no MMA , and wouldn't be for 20 more years , and 20 more before it got to where it is ).
It's already bigger than boxing and not slowing down . I love it . From the first UFC tournaments I rented videos of , and now it's on primetime network TV. This is F'ing GREAT .
