You can't say that anyone would definately beat anyone. | I was never a Rich nuthugger because I never bought into the marketing aspect of him. Of course anything can happen in a fight. But the reality is that the poster boy of the UFC's middleweight division was completely schooled and made to look like an amateur. If someone new to the sport was watching that fight, didnt know the fighters, and didnt know that it was a title fight, they'd assume it was just another mismatch. But in reality, everything that was built up about Franklin, much like A.A, was exposed to be a lot of hype. Rich is suppose to be some kind of amazing striker, but where does he get that reputation from? Knocking out Nate Quarry? The announcers constantly repeating it? Dana White repeating it every time he talks about Rich? Honestly, where does it come from? What is it about his fight game that supposedly made people look at him in awe? The only thing that seperates him from other fighters, and pretty much the only thing the UFC focused on when they followed him for a couple days, was his conditioning. Well conditioning is great but if you cant last long enough to use it, then it doesnt really matter.

| Points taken, but every fight I have seen him in, his hands have been relentless. I don't think he necessarily is one of the elite strikers, but he just comes at you throwing and never gets out of your face. I don't know that I have seen anyone lately as pin point as Silva. He is definately the real deal. The one thing I really like about Silva is the fact that he doesn't bad mouth anyone and talk smack. He just goes in, gets the job done, and then talks about what a great fighter the guy was. Anyway, a little off topic. So if Franklin would have KOd Silva for example, would that have earned him the title of an amazing striker? So what is your opinion of an amazing striker?

I dont think you can take anything for granted with Pride fighters beating someone from UFC bar Cro Cop and Fedor murdering big Tim at will.
The cage enviroment changes so much of what Pride fighters are used to, especially the fact that it gives wrestlers the chance to create constant pressure on some1 against a cage and not have to rely on the "clean" takedown.
I think Anderson Silva used the cage far more than he could ever use the ropes in Pride, it created something that prevented Franklin from backing off and reducing the damage caused by those knees in the clinch. It stuck him between a rock and a hard place and every1 saw what happened.

Franklin loses one fight and suddenly everybody can beat him? I admit overall Pride does have a deeper talent pool, but if you say one thing about a UFC fighter on here within the next few replies we'll see "He'd get owned by *PRIDE FIGHTER HERE* or he sucks compared to *PRIDE FIGHTER*.
Just like every Liddell or Wand post becomes a comparison between the two, every thread seems to follow with UFC bashing.

it was Anderson Silva actually
and to be honest, i would only take Lindland over Ace as 100%
i have to see what kind of Hendo comes to fight Vitor on Saturday, and how convincing the wins are at the WWGP before i say someone like Ace would lose.
and Busta doesnt have the wrestling or striking to beat Ace. Suloev shut him down and beat his ass by utilizing the sprawl

Silva is a striker because of his background, just as Matt Hughes is a wrestler because of his background. Rich just had a lot of size on his other opponents and he has good "well rounded" MMA skills (but he doesnt excell in any area of MMA).
