It certainly would have been a good argument for arguing Rich's striking ability. But still, he's a striker because he likes to stand a punch. Silva is a striker because of his background, just as Matt Hughes is a wrestler because of his background. Rich just had a lot of size on his other opponents and he has good "well rounded" MMA skills (but he doesnt excell in any area of MMA).

So can you not make a case with the fight against The Crowe? But I do agree that he does not "excell" in any area. Although he is well rounded and pretty solid. It will all come in time. This may be for the best as far as he is concerned. I think it will wake him up a little as to where he needs to strenghten his game.
