| GSP's claim to top P4P fighter in the world
I think just about everyone who follows MMA agrees that the top 3 P4P fighters in the world are Anderson Silva, GSP, and Fedor. I personally, have the top 3 order as:
1. A. Silva
2. Fedor
3. GSP
I believe Penn is 4
With the druming GSP gave Fitch last night, I have to say, I am very close to putting GSP in the #2 spot. The recent KO loss to Serra, though most feel was a fluke, still kinda hinders me in doing so, as neither Silva or Fedor has had a glitch in their careers in years...
But, with the obvious rematch of GSP/Penn coming up, and both these fighters on a different level than when they met last time, I think their is an opportunity for either GSP or Penn to take the #2 spot or even knock a the door of claiming the #1 P4P fighter spot in the world.
Obviously there are a lot of variables to consider, with Silva and Fedor next opponents and their performances against them, but the top P4P spot is going to make for some interesting threads through the end of the year!

I think Fedor has to be top p4p considering the size difference in his fights, and the fact that his only loss is a NC. Anderson is a solid #2 though. For that matter, Fedor actually finished sylvia, how hard is that with his new found "going to make this fight the most boring possible" training plan?

Please explain that one.

well its 'pound for pound', so the way I see it, beating someone 400lbs when you are only 230lbs gives you cred in terms of each pound of you is more effective.
To add to it, fedor and silva probably are not far off in weight when silva hasnt cut to 185, and I dont think anyone can say Silva could beat Fedor. Silva has been defeated, and even Travis Lutter gave him a run for his money.

GSP is ahead of Penn right now, but when they fight, besides the belt, it's basically to determine who is the number 3 P4P. But right now I'd have to go with GSP.
If they fight for the WW title, and GSP wins, should he drop to LW and fight Penn again for that title?

Fedor- obviously, P4P means reguardless of weight, who is the best, he constantly fights and dominates people above him
GSP- my only problem with him was before, he dominated people because he was much bigger and stronger, but the way he dominated Fitch who is also big and strong impressed me alot
A. Silva- Heres the thing, his striking is top-notch, but a lot of his game has to with his length. His reach standing up, his legs when he's on the ground. Do we take that into consideration? I just don't think he would be giving people as much of a hard time, especially on his back, if he wasn't so long. I know its P4P so it's only saying if everyone is the same weight, but isn't the point being who has the most skill?I think the highest I would have him is 3rd.

That is far too bold of a statement. And while you may find Silva, Fedor, GSP and Penn on top of nearly all P4P rankings, their order can vary quite a bit.

I have Anderson Silva as #1 right now with Fedor #2. This is more due to the fact that Anderson has fought more often recently than Fedor. But it is a close call between those two.
The winner of GSP/Penn will be #3 for sure in my mind.

1. Fedor
2. Anderson
3. BJ Penn
4. GSP
I don't know how anyone can put Anderson above Fedor when not only has Anderson lost 4 times, he's been stopped, something Fedor has not.
I also feel that BJ Penn won the first time he fought GSP and will win the rematch. As Bas Rutten says on BJ Penn, there's nothing that this guy isn't good at and Bas actually ranks BJ as the best pound for pound fighter in the world.
No disrespect to GSP, but I don't think his victories over Hughes were as impressive considering Hughes is on the downswing of his career and I feel that both Serra and Fitch weren't elite caliber fighters. I'm a fan of Fitch's but he was clearly out matched in that fight and I don't think he was ready to step in there. GSP #4 pound for pound but not higher.
I'm anxious to see if the new and improved GSP is ready for a newly rededicated BJ Penn this time around.
