Im not a Fan of J. Mac but he sure Earned my Respect in his Fight w/Demian Maia. It took Maia till the 3rd Round too Sub J. Mac 2 me dats Impressive considering Demian Maia's High Level of BJJ.
J. Mac made it a real Good Fight.

I do agree with the second half...gatekeeper. It's actually a very good description of his role in the ufc. I just might have to start rooting for him...i never have before. | Yeah, i'm not saying that he isn't good, but i remember him saying things like he is on par with Anderson Silva and other top MW's and called Okami boring and this and that even after his loss to him. It just seems to me that he believes that he is an elite fighter. But he just isn't. Franklin didn't have a problem with him.

I like Jason MacDonald. I think he's a talented fighter, and always put on an entertaining fight. He also carries himself well outside of the ring.
I thought he could have won that fight. How he got out of that triangle choke, I'll never know.

Good Fighter - my only take on his comments though are..."What in the makes you think you had a choice in where this fight was fought?"
Maia had the ultimate control. JMac did great staying out of some very bad spots and getting out of submissions, but Maia controlled where this fight went. Even if he wanted to stand it back up, it was going back to the ground. The smartest thing he did in some cases was drop to gaurd instead of having both land on the mat, but with Maia in a dominant position.
JMac will be back, and he is likely fighting for a top 5 spot. The only problem is that 1,2,3,4 are just that much better than he is.

There were times where I was watching it and thinking he was too eager going to the ground. There were times where he could have avoided it and kept it standing. In the 3rd, he had no choice. He was dog tired and out of gas. Earlier, I think he could have done more to defend.
Maia is no joke though. I want to see him fight Leben-Bisping winner.

I want to see Bisping fight Maia too. So I can see Bisping fight a top level BJJ guy and beat him so everyone can stop hating on him. Yeah I think Maia can sub him. Because we all know Bisping has been lucky more than once to not be submitted. But I will c ertainly be rooting for him to win because he gets hated on on this site way more than he deserves.

Its not like Macdonald was having any success when the fight was on the feet. Maia landed the greatest power shot of the fight (left hook) and the thai clinch was working pretty decently for him.
It's pretty interesting that Maia has won sub of the night honors in every one of his UFC fights...

I think Jmac should feel a little bit stupid. He went into a fight with a world class BJJ practitioner and took the fight to the ground. If he was going to win that fight it would have been on the feet. I cant imagine what he was thinking. I will however say that he impressed the hell out of me with his submission defense. I thought it was over with the triangle and then the other RNC that he defended superbly. I think if he would have followed his gameplan properly and not played into Demian's strength, he could have won the fight.

Even in losing via submission, it was one hell of a showing of sub defense from Jason.
And a pretty good read also.

Jason gave a good effort. It's easy to look back and say I should have done this. Like they say, Hindsight's 20-20
