| RUMOUR: Chuck Liddell vs Anderson Silva on NYE show? Quote:
Chuck Liddell vs Anderson Silva on NYE show?
One is an icon of the UFC, a knockout artist who ruled over the light heavyweight division for years, the most popular and recognisable fighter to ever step into the octagon. The other, is a man widely considered to be the best pound for pound fighter on the planet, dangerous in any position and currently sits at the top of the middleweight division. The question is..... who in their right mind wouldn’t want to see them get it on!?!
Of course the two men we are talking about are Chuck Liddell and Anderson Silva. There is a growing belief that if the UFC management fail to make the Georges St. Pierre/B.J. Penn fight for their December show, they will turn to “The Iceman” and “The Spider” to fill the void and by doing so make one of the biggest matches in mma history.
In an article on nbcsports.msnbc.com, it was reported: “One possibility if St. Pierre decides he can't go is Chuck Liddell vs. Anderson Silva. That, fight, however, also has a few obstacles in its path. Liddell is fighting in September, so assuming he wins, he’d have enough time to recover.”
"But Silva is competing on Oct. 25 against Patrick Cote. He’d have to come out of that match unscathed and take a fight with only two months to prepare against Liddell. It might seem far-fetched, but Silva has voiced a hope to fight more frequently, and mentioned back in June that he hoped to have three more matches in ’08.”
This would be a fight that has fan’s flocking to Vegas to see and many would consider it a bigger fight that the St. Pierre/Penn clash. With both fighters in action over the coming months, President Dana White, will have more than just his fingers crossed for not only both fighters to come through injury free, but that both men are victorious so that he can put together the super fight of all super fights.

Damn they should try to get both fights done, come on its fucking New Years in Vegas!
If not what a replacement to see Ice and Spiders.
Even though I was in Vegas for New Years last year and thought if only the weather was better. It sucks that Vegas can get that cold it should be fucking hot all the time like the fire that this NYE show will be for the UFC.

I'd rather see GSP/Penn but either option are pretty great.
this may be slightly off topic, but the last saturday in december is on the 27th, will the ufc do a show midweek or will they just call the 27th the NYE show?

They need to make this fight happen--NYE or otherwise.
I got Spider by TKO in the second.

This is turning out to be the Wanderlei Silva-Chuck Liddell fight all over again, IMO. It's been rumored and speculated time and again but by the time it happens, some of the impact could be taken away. What happens if Liddell loses in Septemer to Rashad dropping him to 1-3 in his last 4? Are they going to want Liddell to fight a monster like Silva coming off a cold streak like that. Or would Liddell even take another fight like that?

I was actually going to post "almost" the same article last night, from a different source though, but figured you all already knew about it.
Sounds great though, I'm down!
My question? Does this really make sense from a business perspective ? I can think of several bad sinerials on why this does not make good business sense.

Can you imagine a card that had both fights? GSP/Penn and Silva/Chuck?!
I'm pretty sure I'd lose my brains over that. Not to mention whatever other fights they would put on it.

The primary reason is that Anderson IMO is quickly becoming the most popular fighter in the UFC. Chuck is there now, but is coming to the end of his career, and having Anderson taking out chuck would be a passing of the torch.
Anderson definitely needs to fight at 205 Lbs, as he will only blast through everyone at 185 IMO....
WAR ANDERSON!

I'd prefer Chuck on the NYE card, save GSP for Canada early 2009
