UFC Backtalk asks about HW
 

so as a fight club member I get all kinds of emails from UFC. Recently they started this Back Talk thing and they had questions about UFC 87, but then they asked about heavyweights. They had us rank the fighters in order of who we enjoyed watching the most. Other than pointing out that the UFC HW division doesn't really have the level of competition that they used to, I wonder if this is how they will be determining who gets the next title shot.

The fighters in question are:
- Cheick Kongo
- Cain Velasquez
- Brock Lesnar
- Frank Mir
- Gabriel Gonzaga
- Heath Herring
- Minotauro Nogueira

And I ranked them as follows (top enjoy the most)
Nog
Lesnar
Mir
Herring
Gonzaga
Velasquez
Kongo

Now don't get me wrong I like watching Velasquez, but I ranked him below Gonzaga because I don't want to see Velasquez get pushed too quickly. I also admit that 2-4 could easily be interchanged as they are all enjoyable. The only two definite picks I had from the start were Nog as the most enjoyable and Kongo as the least. Yes the dude is a beast, but compared to everyone else I just wasn't sure.

So what are your thoughts?

Can't believe they didn't ask about Werdum.

Why all the hate for Kongo?? Sure, he doesnt have an amazing ground game, but I dont remember his fights being boring or THAT boring at least. He goes for the finish, always pushes or at least tries to most of the time and he seems pretty fan friendly. I dont know, maybe its just me but I actually enjoy watching him fight. It broke my heart to see him defeat CroCop so well, but at the same time I gained respect for him. So what if he is a little cocky, doesnt take away from his ability.

Having said that, I do not think he, or anybody in the HW div is ready for a title shot at all. Maybe Mir just because he is the only really credible guy they have right now, Brock or Kongo after that, but until they fight each other, Mir is your guy or Werdum after that at least.

Agreed. That's BS.

I don't think they asked about Werdum because everyone knows he is next in line. My guess is they are trying to figure out where people stand in terms of the other fighters.

As far as the hate for Kongo, it isn't a hate, it is just compared to the other fighters I like them more. Yes he is a beast and pushes the pace, but of the 7 fighters he is my least favorite. That's all.

werdum should definitely be up there. his arlovski fight was shit, but his other two fights were great and he looked amazing in each. he's probably my favorite ufc heavyweight right now

Hrm, that's a good point. I didn't even think of that. Had Werdum been in the list, he would have gotten 2nd right behind Nog then Lesnar.

Interim champion, as long they refuse to release Couture then he's the champ.

Sounds like they're aware of the lack of talent or at least the lack of overall appeal in their hw division. You should get paid and Affliction should be happy.
