i think you have more of a chance to get injured in pro wrestling than in mma....plus traveling 300 plus days a year will take its toll on your body and mind....in mma you really only train when you have a fight coming up, not the same with wrestling...remember that goldberg kick???
I think most of you need to take a xanax or something and chill out.
Don't worry, Bret Hart's comments won't get MMA banned, so you can relax.
If you read what he says carefully, you'd get that he enjoys the sport, he enjoys watching it, and he's commenting more on us as humans than the sport and the athletes.
He makes the remark comparing his match with Steve Austin, the one with the infamous shot of Austin, face bloodied, screaming in pain, and states that that match gave the impression of the most vicious of fights, but neither man was seriously injured. However, if in an MMA fight, if a man was bleeding as Austin was bleeding (his face, every inch, was covered in blood) that he could be in serious danger, especially if he was refusing to tap in a submission move.
What I got out of the article was that his concern was our addiction to violence as people is what concerns him.
Face it guys, go to your local wing spot or sports bar the night an MMA event is on, and chances are, you and your group of friends/guys you know, are the only ones who are watching that aren't screaming
"Knock that motherfucker out!"
"Hit'em you pussy!"
"Stop hugging on him you pussy! Stand them up!"
If anything, Bret Hart appears to understand MMA, and the difference between that and wrestling. In wrestling, they can have constant, face-paced action all the time, because the results are pre-determined, so the crowd doesn't get bored as quickly, all the while keeping the athletes as safe as possible.
But as you and I both know, MMA matches are not always fast paced, knockout wars, and the casual fan who does not know the difference between "ultimate fighting/cage fighting" and mixed martial arts does not understand that. They want the old UFC rules where it was basically bare-knuckle fights on TV. Sad to say, because I like his attitude and his drive to learn, but this is why a Kimbo Slice can headline an event and sell with only 3 fights under his belt, but you can ask 10 people who GSP is and maybe 2-3 will know.
These are the people who always think the fight has been stopped early, that there should be no ground fighting unless someone has the full mount, etc because they want to see blood, violence, defenseless people beat into they're next to dead.
Maybe I just read into it more than others, but I don't have a problem with what Bret Hart said. From what I read, he seems pretty intelligent.
Wrestling with Shadows...that's what it's called. Edited.
That was a really good documentary. It will turn anyone into a Bret Hart fan. The funny thing is how many people keep posting that Bret's opinion doesn't matter, but yet the name of a man who has been out of the wrestling industry for a year still pulls alot of posts on a website. How many people saw a wrestler's name and ran in here to say that wrestling is dead? It tugs at the heartstrings to watch those old matches.
MMA isn't just about headshots though and their recuperating time after a fight is long (usually 3 months in UFC). In wrestling, you get hit by steel chairs a few times a week... I think those add up way worse long-term than MMA or even boxing.
They checked out Benoit's brain after his whole incident and they said it resembled that of an alzheimer's patient.
I think the hitman is a little harsh on it because of the way a real kick ended his career, leading to his concussion.
A real kick by an incompetent wrestler ended his career. Bill Goldberg I'm looking at you.
many of u prolly arent fans of wrestling, but those who are like myself will agree that the art in wrestling is long gone. i enjoy a beautiful fake wrestling match as much as a brutal mma bout any day. i dnt think the man meant any disrespect to mma as he did admit to being a fan so props. i think he was just saying a wrestling match in which no one is really hurt is just as good as a mma fight.
i think this interview is either old or he repeated what hes already said cuz i swear ive heard him say all this before.
i used to be a huge fan of wrestling, but the art is dead. back even 6-7 years ago, there was a large core of guys in the WWE who carried the company. angle, benoit, jericho, christian, eddie, they were all intensely skilled at their craft and put on a great show. even guys built like they shouldn't be able to move were at the absolute top-tier... IE undertaker. however, in time these guys were just thrown into the mid-card for gimmic matches and other wastes of their talent. christian jobbed to everyone, jericho was forced to carry hogan's ass through every match, and overacting semi-talents like the rock and stone cold got all the glory. john cena? christ... but i digress.
it was a very real physical demand put on these guys, and some of them were fantastic at it. when i wrestled in high school, i would study the angle/benoit matches, picking up countless techniques. they were fucking epic. seems like now they're all pretty much gone, past their prime or in a watered down position within a company, making room for cans like batista. it's a shame, and the reason i haven't watched it in years.
and, for the record, pro wrestling is far more dangerous than mma. broken necks, fused spinal columns, arthritis, everything that results in living like hardcore holly for 20 years. i'd rather be on the recieving end of a cro-cop head kick than botch a shooting star press.
Ouch I remember that and the son of a gun got up anyways and started stumbling/walking. That man has a hell of a heart/drive. U can actually see him tell the ref that he is not okay and Owen has a look of "Oh fuck" on his face.
Anyways this is just one of many injuries that happen often in wrestling, not to mention the early deaths of these wrestlers.
