Reality is probably hitting Randy right now.

His window is shutting and he knows it, if he gets a few million from UFC, I'm sure he will take it.

I think the key thing that Randy Couture said when talking about a fight with Fedor was that it was the only fight that made sense for him right now.
After seeing Lesnar nearly pop Frank Mir's head like a zit on prom night and then go on to handle Heath Herring with a type of ease that is just uncanny at this level of the game, I'm sure Randy sees the potential in Lesnar and is interested in how he would fare in a match.
Randy is a diehard competitor and the thought of a test like Brock Lesnar may have him salavating and saying some hail Marys to the UFC brass in order to get back in there at least one more time.

New reports from BloodyElbow.com confirm the previously reported negotiations between Couture and the UFC. Additionally, the reports claim that Couture's next fight would be the UFC 91 main event against Brock Lesnar (2-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC).
It is unknown at this time whether the bout would be for Couture's UFC heavyweight title. How could this be for the title isn't Nog interim champ

He already has other billionaires clamoring after him (Mark Cuban HD-Net) that are actively involved in trying to get him released from his UFC contract so he can make the fight with Fedor and make his millions in one go. The UFC does not have Fedor, and Randy doesn't need the UFC to fight Fedor.

He could wait to fight Fedor, but who knows how long that could take to materialize, or he could go make millions to fight Lesnar and Nog now.

Maybe Randy found out his contract wasn't going to be up any time soon an that he owed the UFC 2 fights.
Didn't he say he would find out a few weeks ago from the courts if he had to up hold those fights. I mean if thats the case, an when he found out he had to he just went back into talks with the UFC.
Instead of coming out an saying well i owe them, maybe he just was like fuck it, ill get them to pay me more money an fight.

He's off the cards until after he fights Mir.
It's obvious the window is closing on his career, otherwise he wouldn't be trying to get out of his contract with the UFC to have one last fight.
Lesnar - Couture would be a huge draw but their pay still pales in comparision to what guys are getting paid in Affliction. Lesnar is a dangerous fight just due to his sheer power. Fedor is dangerous too but it would pay multiple times what a Lesnar fight in the UFC would. He's not looking to fight up in the UFC anymore, he wants one last fight and that fight alone would make him more than both of those UFC fights combined. There's a reason he's been MIA and not fighting and that's it.
