| Winners of Cro Cop/Overeem & Kharitonov/Mo for DREAM HW Title Quote:
Winners of Cro Cop/Overeem, Kharitonov/Mighty Mo to Fight for DREAM Heavyweight Title
by ChrisNelson on Sep 16, 2008 7:52 AM EDT in News
Earlier today, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic appeared on Croatian channel NovaTV (a station who in the past has televised many of the Croat's bouts live for his home nation) and revealed future plans for the fledgling DREAM promotion's heavyweight division. User "loreia" on the Kakutougi forums broke the news with a quickfire translation:
From his interview for NovaTV broadcasted just minutes ago:
"Winners of two HW fights scheduled for Dream.6 will fight for Dream HW title. Those fighter will be: myself and most probably [Sergei] Kharitonov".
In other words, Mirko is expecting to kick the head off of Alistair Overeem on September 23rd, and thinks the returning Sergei has a pretty good chance against "Mighty Mo" Siligia. I don't necessarily agree with his assessment of either match, but any two out of those four fighters would make a nice marquee match-up for the Japanese fans and positively reeks of New Year's Eve. Also, if there was any doubt before, I think it's now pretty safe to assume that Filiopvic is never, ever coming back to the UFC.

I also believe that UFC still has rights to CroCop?
am i right on this??
does any one know?
I was under the assumption that his contract with the UFC was just put on hold by mutual agreement.
So i think it is NOT Safe to say that CroCop will never return to the UFC.

i'm pretty sure he was released. however because he was released early i'm sure there's some kind of clause that says he can't compete in north america unless it's for the ufc.

Im not convinced that CroCop is back either. I think Overeem is going to give him all he wants. The key to beating CroCop is putting constant pressure on him. I hope that Overeem puts Mirko in some deep waters just to see how Mirko responds. I think Overeem is going to win this fight.

If Cro Cop dispatches of Overeem in dominant fashion, I'll pick him to win this little mini-tourney. After that, he better get his ass in gear and go where the big boys are, whether that's Affliction or back to the UFC.

Finally CroCop and Karitonov. If Overeem wins, Karitonov finally gets a chance to revenge a shitty loss too. Hopefully after, Karitonov vs. Fedor.

It makes total sense for DREAM and AFFLICTION to copromote together. It would deepen their HW division even further. + They both use a ring. We could have a nice PRIDE rich talent pool again.
