| Judging TUF Fighters
I've heard criticism of the judging that's done concerning TUF Fighters in the UFC. With Sanchez's recent "hang on the back" victory over Alessio, it's become more evident. But what about the Griffin v Ortiz fight, there wasn't a bias there and the fight wasn't really dominated by any one of the fighters.
Opinions please.
Later.

The bottom line was that both these fights were close but the decisiojns where correct.
If you weighed up the balance of play Ortiz beat Griffin. Simple as. Rd 1 Ortiz. Rd 2 Griffin. Rd 3 Ortiz. Griffin can do as many push ups as he likes after the fight, he should have used that energy winning the fight.
Diego beat Allesio. As far as I'm aware hanging unto a fighters back does not win you points. Close but Diego clearly won the fight.
I can see peoples points when the fights are this close, but again if you watch the fight as a neutral the decisions are correct. Usually!

I saw a win for Griffin
I dunno about the Diego fight but I thought Griffin beat Ortiz, he won the standup game and he stayed more active, after round 1 I thought it went
Rd 2 Griffin
Rd 2 Griffin or Draw cuz Ortiz took him down again but add in the many takedowns Griffin defended, and add in the fact that Griffin was more active on his back then Ortiz was on top, plus Griffin still landed more punches in RD 3 as he did in RD 2
I thought Griffin won that one.

I would also agree that griffin won and i think the diego decision was correct. Both fighters pushed the action and in a close fight ring generalship needs to count for something. But with UFC scoring there is way more emphasis on the takedown and not the escape or defense of the takedown. Doesn't matter how busy you are on the bottom you are still on the bottom and in the UFC if you don't submit him you will lose from the bottom. its a chance all BJJ guys take in the ufc. they lose more decisions than they win. unfortunate but true

I didnt see a sucessful takedown after that 1st round, IMO the takedowns Griffin defended shoulda scored more points then the last Takedown in the 3rd round by Ortiz cuz he didnt do anythin but take elbows from Griffin.. so I felt Forrest won that fight, but then again it was easy for the Judges to give it to Tito and the UFC looks better with Tito winning so why not?
what bugged me is Tito gets the decision, and as soon as the mic is in front of him
OHH I HAD INJURIES booo hoo then afterwards claiming that Forrest cheated.. never seen such a sore winner in my life.

the way you have to look at the ufc decisions is the way they have been doing it lately is giving the win to the guy it benefits the most. first example ortiz vs griffin. i also saw a win for grifin but it hurts ortiz much more to get the loss because it makes the ortiz shamrock fight look like to washed up guys and hurts ortiz future in the ufc for an other big name fights. forrest losing just makes people say hes not quite ready yet and he lost to ortiz but held his own so wow hes pretty good.
next example is the bonnar vs jardine fight. many people felt jardine won but there was no way he was getting that decision. the majority of the casual ufc fans think bonnar is god just like forrest and bonnar losing to jardine someone the casual ufc fans know but dont think is very good because he lost on TUF makes bonnar fall way down the ladder but jardine holding his own but losing a close decision doesnt hurt him at all and still gives bonnar the win.
this has happened plenty of times in TUF fights but the thing you really have to look at is the horrible scoring of 1 of the ufc judges. in almost all TUF decisions 1 of the judges has all the rounds scored for the guy the ufc wants to win no matter what. there is no way sanchez won all three rounds in his fight with allesio but non the less on judge had it 30-27. same goes for the rashad fight on the last UFN one judge had it 30-27 even though won round clearly went the other way.

I still see Ortiz - Shamrock as two washed up guys fighting eachother, thats prolly just me though.

Ortiz v shamrock is one washed up fighter and one on the slow decline. The thing with the judges is i think they are all boxing judges that don't know shit about mma. NSAC assigns the judges not the ufc. If you want fixed decisions you need to go to the mafia run pride to get those.
As much as i know this is going to come back to haunt me i think the judges make decisions to the best of their ability and their view of the octagon/ring. You have to remember that we see a million angles of the fight on ppv. they only see it from one side of the ring. There is a lot that we see and they don't. That is how i justify the horrible decisions in boxing. I think with mma being a newly sanctioned sport there needs to be a learning curve for the judges.

on second thought we should send the judges to MFS, Brazillian top team, chute box etc. And let the fighters "train" them to judge and "show" them the importance of ground skill.

That's a good point. All other sports to my knowlege train their judges, refs, etc. Does the UFC not have some kind of program for that? Seems short-sighted.
