| Nightmare's Ground/Pound weekly topic - 11/7/08
Second weekly installment of Diegonightmare's Ground/Pound MMA topic.
The format is similar to MMA Live's "buy/sell" segment at the end of the show, but mine is "ground" (disagree with the topic) or "pound" (agree with the topic).
This week's Ground/Pound MMA topic is: Jake Rosholt will be a title-contending force at MW in the UFC within 2 years.
The first week I voted first and gave my arguments, but I'll instead let other folks weigh in with their vote and give their supporting arguments.
Please make your pick and discuss it!

he didn't do anything to really impress me much.
He dominated a gassed fighter.
isn't that what your supposed to do?

I love this weekly discussion thing you have going man. My Fighter of the Month thing has such a long gap between it. These discussions are cool. Keep doing them.
I voted pound. I think Rosholt has the potential to be a MW title contender for sure in 2 years. Will he win the title? Maybe not... then again, Anderson Silva won't be monopolizing the top of the mountain at that point either.
This certainly isn't a stacked division and probably still won't be in two years. If the division is like it is, he more than has a shot to be a contender, and maybe even a title challenger. Right now, any fighter (minus Rich Franklin) is a two or three fight win streak from a shot at the title.

based on what i saw, i don't think he'll be contending for much. granted his wrestling skills impressed me, but he was getting rocked pretty hard by a gassed fighter when he stood up. there were a couple of times i thought it was about to be over when he was on his feet. i see his skills improving in the future, but contender status i'm not so sure.

I voted ground because there is no telling if his clinch and standup work will ever come together. Obviously the combination of excellent wrestling, positional control and BJJ is deadly, but from what I've seen his defense is atrocious

I wasn't really impressed with anything other than his ability to take combos to the face. He looked like the elephant man after the fight. I can't see him contending.

I voted ground, his standup was sloppy, and he took a lot of damage. I think he will be a serious contender eventually, but not in two years. He has a lot of work to do still.
