Matt is definately not a racist. I train at his gym which there are several different races among his guys, and racism is something that DEFINATELY would not be tolerated. He is close with his fighters and just because he is a hunter/country boy type person doesn't make him a racist...

If you know the part of IL that he's from...everyone is racist around there. I grew up around there so this comes as no surprise at all.
Now what would've been a surprise is hearing him say he's not racist at all.

if hughes isnt a racist i think he should doing something about them having his picture up.

This photo was taken on April 5th, 2008, when Matt did an appearance at Dale’s Harley-Davidson, in Mt. Vernon, IL. I run Matt’s website and I was there taking pictures of the event. This photo was from early on in the day and some guy brought the shirt to Matt, asked him to sign it and take a picture with it. Matt was on his way to the autograph table, so he signed it and took the picture on the move and I doubt he even looked at the shirt any longer than it took to find a blank space to sign his name. The only reason I remember it so well was I noticed the "SS" symbol and thought to myself, "Uh-oh, this could be a problem." It was a busy day, so I never brought it up and it seemed like such a small issue as the months went by.

Again, Matt has absolutely no affiliation with this group, he was just asked by a fan to sign the shirt and take the photo and he did. Matt has no connections whatsoever with white supremacist groups.

To be fair, this guy is claiming the "Hughes didn't even know what was on the shirt" defense, but:

1) If you hold up a shirt for a picture, you should probably check it out yourself to make sure it doesn't make you look like a racist

2) If you're an MMA fighter and someone is trying to get a picture of you with their t-shirt/book/whatever, chances are its going to be used to promote said t-shirt/book/whatever with or without your consent.
