A shame to let him go. I was really excited about his prospects, and he was really one of the tent poles in the thinning HW roster IMO. Why keep Gabe and get rid of Werdum?! (I would have liked to see them keep both).
His 2 losses weren't really beatdowns either. Yes he got KTFO by dos, but that was a flash KO. The sustained beatdowns Werdum gave Gabe and Vera may not have been as visceral but they showed more. Dos might be just that, a flash in the pan. Didn't they figure that out after they overpaid for soukudjo? And Dos cant even fight for the belt as long as Nog has it. I sure hope they get rid of Herring before bringing in another potentially perennial gatekeeper.
I couldn't find Verdums payouts at MMApayout, but herring got 140,000 @ 82 for beating cheick Kongo (30,000), Verdum is better than both of them.

to me Werdum was UFC's most boring fighter. I wasn't looking forward to seeing a Nog/Werdum rematch anyways.

I still cant find Werdums payout but heres another cute nugget:
"UFC Silva vs Irvin Payouts
July 21, 2008
...
Anderson Silva ($200,000*) d. James Irvin ($20,000)
Brandon Vera ($200,000) d. Reese Andy ($15,000) "
The guy he beat and has lost 3 of his last four (1 win over reese andy, whoever that is), but who Werdum was the only one to finish him, got 200,000?!
And they want Werdum to take a paycut in the middle of his contract?!
Very dissapointing!
(And whats up with Vera getting the same as Anderson anyway?)

^^I'd also bet Leben is making more money than Werdum, and Leben only looks good against mid-to-lower tier guys...every time he fights someone in the top 20, he gets beaten. Werdum was consistently fighting mid-to-upper-tier fighters till this last fight, with a few fights against top 5 guys.
Oh, whoever is saying the Vera stoppage was too quick has no clue about what they're talking about. There was no way Vera was doing anything once he was mounted. He can't even handle LHW's since he got promoted to the second most overpaid fighter in the industry. If the UFC is looking to cut overhead, they need to boot Vera as well.
But I really think the UFC didn't like Fabricio and put him on the shelf, so he didn't take this fight seriously enough. So the UFC got what they wished. He had better credentials to be in the title mix than either Mir or lesnar, but he didn't have the following among casual fans, so this is a convenient excuse to send him packing, when he really deserved a title shot...but TUF sucks enough already, and Dana couldn't risk nails in the coffin by having two Brazilian coaches, so Mir got the nod. Yet another reason for me to hate TUF, it fucks up title shots every fucking season.
But this is exactly what the UFC needs, to jettison another legitimate top 10 HW. Maybe Dana can start building the myth of brock a little harder to make up for it.
rh
Edit: it looks like Leben is still on a 25+25k contract, while Werdum is 80+80; so I would have lost my bet. But I'm happy, because Fabricio is more than twice the fighter Chris is, and he's not a fucking cheater.

I like how you brought up Vera
Some fighters get under paid some over paid
Really disappointed that Werdum left

That's a shame, cause I liked Werdum. I mean if they really wanted to save some money and cut someone it should've been Brandon Vera, because that guy makes a ton of dough and hasn't done shit since he got that new contract.
And in my eyes Werdum didn't get caught with a lucky punch. There are NO lucky punches in MMA. If you get punched in the face, you get punched in the face....end of story. Werdum got caught like others have in the past and he lost.

^^There isn't enough cute emoticons on the internets to distort the facts: Werdum has proven his legitimacy against top 10 fighters and that lesnar has not.

I am not saying he was doing a Wandy ,just throwing hay makers and see what lands.
He wanted to land that punch but actually landing that punch is hard to do, you have to time it just right.
So he was lucky Werdum dipped his head and he landed the punch.
9 times of of ten an mma fighter is not gonna land that punch. | Sorry to call you on this but you have no idea what you are talking about Wand does not throw haymakers and to even get a hook confused with one is asinine. Wand has power hooks and straights that is how he fights just because his elbows are up does not mean he is throwing haymakers. Haymakers are more extending and come from the outside. Wand fights more from the inside in a direct manner, he does so to sneak in the clinch.

Too bad Werdum left, the heavyweight division is looking a little thin. He did not look in shape at all for that fight. I was kind of wondering if he was training more to gain bulk anticipating a future fight with Lesnar and overlooked the fight with dos Santos.
Wouldn't mind seeing Werdum fight Overeem.
