Penn, GSP, and Couture in the UFC; Fedor, AA, Hansen, and Alvarez elsewhere.

It's GSP.

The reason is not just because of his skills and abilities though... it's because of where he's situated in the rankings and the division he's in.

BJ, Anderson and Fedor obviously put on a good show but they don't consistently fight the fighters that GSP does. The reason is because their division isn't as stacked in their respective organization. At LW many people think that BJ has no competition.. so that doesn't intrigue them as much. At MW, no one gets excited about the opponent of Anderson with the exception of Hendo. As for Fedor, it's just recently that he got surrounded again by top HWs.

GSP on the other hand has a very competitive division. People know he's one of the top p4p and one of the most exciting fighters, yet his opponents are so credible that no one knows for sure if GSP is going to pull it out. In the last 5 out of 6 GSP fights, a large number thought his opponent would pull it out. The only one where people pretty much unanimously thought GSP was going to win was the first Serra fight and we know how that turned out.

I think Fedor is the most exciting fighter but best bang for your ppv buck has many more components. Basically, you need to put on a great show but you also need an intriguing matchup and a great division will consistently put that fighters against top level opponents.

Wanderlei Silva. He will make it an exciting fight no matter what. If Wanderlei is fighting, you are in for a ride. With Wanderlei, it's "you better knock me out, or I am going to destroy you." And come on... the staredown and wrist roll alone gets style points

Runner up would be Fedor Emelianenko. Watching his work is an absolute masterpiece being made before your eyes. I can't think of a single fight (for sure since Fedor's time in PRIDE) where he didn't do something that made me break out in a Frank Trigg like "OH MY GOD!"

If it's "bang for your buck" 3 names immediately come to mind.
1. Wanderlei Silva
2. Fedor
3. Tank.
4. Clay Guida
The top 3 I know will bang and won't back up for a second. Clay, dude just gives 100 fuckin percent every time! Clay is about the hardest working in the cage/ring I've ever seen.

If it's skill.
1. BJ
2. Anderson Silva
3. Machida
4. GSP

Then theres the hope/hype fights, where you hope it lives up to the hype.
1. Chuck Liddell
2. Chuck Liddell
3. Chuck Liddell
4. Tito Smito Ortiz

I couldn't have named 2 fighters more appropriate for this thread, and couldn't have phrased it any better so I too will quote Riz.

Also, though some eyes will roll, I have to give props to Diego Sanchez.

The Koscheck fight at UFC 69 was obviously not a high point, but let's be serious - he was sick as hell and just hours before he thought he was completely done in the sport.

But, that Koscheck fight aside, Diego is AS exciting a fighter as you will find. Not as well rounded a fighter - he isn't in Silva/BJ/Fedor territory - but he is as exciting a fighter as you will find. He pushes the pace the entire fight, and like Wanderlei, he doesn't want to outpoint you, he fights to finish you. Just as with Wandy, Fedor and some others, he is never in a boring fight.
