any good strike gets its power from your hips, that has much more importance in the end then closing your fist or leaving your hand open.

gloves offer more protection then swinging with an open palm. you cant bend your wrist when its taped up with athletic tape and gauze, then placed inside a 4. oz NHB glove. and a straight shot to the chin will KTFO people, and a shot to the neck so hard that it cuts off blood to the brain is a ridiculously hard to do
plus, who the fuck stands up straight with his neck out? they duck their head and cover their faces with their hands, you'll never land that. hitting the face is actually easier because its more exposed, even though its covered by the hands.
i have a black belt in kung fu. i've heard all the reasoning by traditional martial artists that MMA is just not efficent and its lucky strikes, just throw and hope to connect.
but theres a reason that Muay Thai, Boxing, and kickboxing are the primary tools of an MMA fighter. because its simple, and its proven. no MMA fighter should waste their time learning TMA's fundamentals and forms.
