i think there are 3 reasons there are only a few guys thate use BJJ as the primary tool in the UFC
one, the people recruited by the UFC are not primary BJJ guys, and if they are, its a different method of using it. they use an offensive game that BJ Penn and Matt Serra both favor, getting on top and using GnP and working for the submission. much more exciting to the average joe
for instance, what would people rather see, BJ mount some fool and beat his ass until he rolls, and then chokes him out? or big Nog working patiently from guard, getting a sweep or transition, and then the sub, or a sub from the guard.
and my second reason, sweeps and shit are hard when Joe Nobody just double legs you, plows you into the fence, and sits in your guard and throws big blows that dont hit you to make the crowd go OOH and the judges give him a point for nothing.
and number 3 is the judges. we've all seen fights won because some stupid motherfucker was on top just throwing little love taps and not passing guard, because the NSAC judges are idiots that dont award enough points for submission attempts and neutralization of the ground game.
its all in the organization, from where the fight takes place, to who fights, to who picks the fighters.

there aren't any BJJ masters in UFC
| Another fantastic supreme sweeping statement based upon.......well nothing as most of his forum posts are.
Wasn't Matt Serra the first non Brazilian Gracie trained black belt in BJJ?
The other names have already been mentioned, no need to repeat them.

Matt Serra was the first Gracie jiu-jitsu black belt in the United States under Renzo Gracie. There have probably been other non-Brazilian competitors who earned their bjj black belt before him in the states but not under Renzo.

Sanches came away with a overwelming decision. Where it should have been split having either of them winning. But because Nick was in half Guard or underneath Dirty for alot of it they ruled that as not domination.

i do agree that Diaz was not overwhelmed at all in that fight, but Diego did fit the winning description
he controlled the pace, he dealt out the punishment when the fight was on the ground, and though he rarely passed guard, and when he did, Nick pulled some slick shit to get back in place, but Nick still did not do any damage.
it reminded me of the Allessio fight in that his winning had a lot to do with control, from pushing the pace and using what time he had the fight where he wanted to control his opponent. if Allessio had been using the sprawl and a 1-2 as opposed to just the jab, he would have outscored Diego and won that fight

Yep. There are some guys who have BJJ backgrounds and are pretty good in it, but compared to, let's say PRIDE, there is a lack of world-class submission masters/BJJ masters.
Not trying to be immature and start a UFC vs PRIDE debate, but I'm just sayin' there are more of these guys in PRIDE....like the Nogueira brothers, Arona, Filho, Rua, Silva, Kang, etc etc
