Gimmicks in MMA

Do you guys think we will eventually see fighters with Gimmicks, and storylings like in pro wrestling but with legit fights? I think it would be used to get the fans to care about the fighters a bit more. I'm trying to get my dad and my friends to watch but they seem disinterested not really because of the fights themselves (which they have called a few fights extremely boring) but because they don't know anything about the fighters. I'll probably get flamed for a stupid question but I'm kind of curious.

Fantastic question. Yes, I absolutely do think we should and will see gimmicks in MMA. We do have good storylines. You can never beat a good old fashioned feud between 2 guys who hate eachother(on camera), like Shamrock/Ortiz.
Kimo was the first guy I ever saw in MMA come to the octagon all decorated. It was his first fight in the UFC against Royce Gracie at UFC 3. Kimo came out with a cloak over his head, all tatooed up with religious crap, and was carrying the cross on his back. His motto was "To spread the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world. Unfortunately he was the one who got crucified.

But regardless, it was nice to see.
We'll see more. Fedor has a good gimmick. He's the unstoppable cyborg, the ultimate killing machine, the Russian experiment. Well actually it's not really a gimmick but it still works!

Are you guys serious? Pride has been doing shit like this for years. Maybe not so much with the "Gimmick" thing, but they've been doing "storylines"....well, hell, since the very first Pride with Rickson and Takada.

I think the next storyline they should do is have somebody hold a fighter's wife hostage. Maybe have CroCop kidnap Fedor's wife to build up Fedor/CroCop II for the american fans.

Most people in North America have no idea what PrideFC is or have never seen it. Thus, UFC is the only company and they have no gimmicks. The Ortiz/Shamrock "storyline" was the goods.

yeah, but shamrock was a b*tch in that storyline. A good storyline is one where fighters split wins, not where 1 bozo gets assraped time and time again in the same exact way.
