MELENDEZ OUT OF PRIDE BUSHIDO

Breaking news from Loretta Hunt in Japan

Gilbert Melendez has pulled out of his Nov 4th Pride Bushido show vs. Shinya Aoki with a reputed bursa sack (knee) and possible ligament and tendon damage in his elbow. A replacement from Dan Henderson/Team Tompkins is on his way to Japan to replace Melendez. Keep checking back on The Fight Network for more information on the replacement.

I thought he wasn't aloud to fight at that Pride because of his contract at strikeforce and how the two fights were too close together?

Either way, it sucks. I was very much looking forward to Aoki/Melendez. It has fight of the year potential. At least the card is pretty stacked and there are other main event quality matches to be seen. But damn, what a shame. Hopefully we see this fight in the future.

Yeah, of all cards for this to happen this is probably one of the better ones. Lots of good fights because of the tournament final rounds, Gomi's rematch with Auerlio for the belt, etc. Normally, Melendez would be one of the main attractions on the card.
