This is the first choke attempt Bruce applied on Kareem. Kareem escaped. |

He learned alot of his wrestling from Gene LeBell.

There's way too many martial artists who helped shape mma into what it is today to pin point exactly who was the most influiance. All of us have our own opinion on who so it's kind of pointless to try and figure out who it is.

Well actually for me at least it was to attempt to get more information. Alot of people over time have helped improve Martial Arts, but w/ MMA we get to see what is theoreticaly effective and what gets your arm broken. The reason I said Count Kuma was due to the fact that he taught traditional styles to non Japanese, and they in turn made the adjustments to bring us some of the most effective Martail Arts practised today. Sambo was Judo mixed w/ regional wrestling styles. BJJ was basically small man Judo when originaly adapted. Bruce Lee said if you took someone who studied 12 months in Wrestling, and Boxing he would beat a conventional 10 yr student of Kung Fu.... I believe several of the posters study more traditional styles, do you disagree?

Maybe its just me, but this seems obvouis. The Gracie Family. Until UFC 1, most people in the world saw fighting as one thing, a stand up brawl between two people, or some Kung Fu fight. Usaully with the bigger guy wining the fight. Then one day the Gracies came along and changed everything everyone though they knew about the fight game. Suddenly you have this scrawny Brazilian guy, who wasn't even the best one in the family, submitting guys like Shamrock, Kimo, and Severn. Guys you would think would smash his face in. To this day, almost every great fighter has some background in submissions, or at least knows how to defend them.
But I dont know, maybe it just me. But The Gracie family seem to be the obvouis choice.
