Default (spoilers) PRIDE WWGP + LW Final Results

WWGP Match #1: Kazuo Misaki VS Paulo Filho

Filho gets the takedown, passes guard, side, and gets mount. He rains down punches and is cautious not to lose his balance. Misaki gets half guard, but Filho quickly regains mount. They are stuck in the corner, Filho on mount, Misake kicking Filho in the face trying to get out; Misaki half rolls out, but Filho somehow gets the armbar. (miraculous armbar by the way)

Filho WINS via armbar near the end of round 1.

WWGP Match #2: Akihiro Gouno VS Denis Kang

Basically the two stand and trade the whole time. Kang's crisp boxing and low kicks outlast Gouno. Kang knocks Gouno down several times with his straights, and follows into guard for a little ground and pound. Not much action, but it is obvious Kang dominated.

Kang WINS via unanmious decision.

WWGP FINAL MATCH

Supposed to be Filho VS Kang, but Filho pulls out due to an injury (didn't catch what it was, but he was limping on his walk to the locker room). Misaki takes his place.

Misaki VS Kang

Round 1
Kang appears with a bandaged right shoulder. The two stand and trade. Kang seems to be getting the better of the exchanges. He takes it to the ground with a double leg takedown, where Misaki stalls. Misaki attempts to hold on to Kang's injured right shoulder in an attempt to wear him down. He almost gets a triangle choke but Kang passes into side control. Next time Kang takes him down, Misaki gets green carded for stalling. Kang controls the ground with ground and pound. Minutes later, Kang appears to be a bit weary. Misaki stuffs a takedown, and in the sprawl, knees him repeatedly. Kang is slow to get up, but eventually does, not seriously harmed but obviously a little worn down.

Round 2
It is obvious Kang is worn down - already injured right shoulder/arm, and the knees. There is also a small cut forming above his left eye. Misaki bounces around the ring with his hyper-stamina. They stand and trade, but sometimes Misaki gets the better of the exchange. Misaki doesn't rock him, but knocks Kang down (I think this happens twice). In Kang's guard, Misaki goes for some less effective (compared to where in round 1 Kang was comfortable ground and pounding) ground and pound. Kang goes for kimuras on both sides. Once, he goes for an armbar, but fails. Minutes later, near the end of the round, Kang has an armbar locked in tight. He has it for about 20-30 seconds, the fight is almost stopped, but Misaki escapes through slamming and stomping. The last 20 seconds of the fight the two stand and trade, this time even Misaki feeling a bit weary.

Misaki WINS via split decision, 2-1 Misaki. (BTW, at the ending ceremony, Saikakibara seems to talk to Kang for longer than usual when giving him his prize money, perhaps saying he did well, and a real match between the real finalists of the WWGP - Filho VS Kang?)

Misaki - WWGP Champ
Kang - #2
Filho - (pulled out of finals due to injury) #3
Gouno - #4

LW Championship Match: Takanori Gomi VS Marcus Aurelio

Rounds 1 & 2
Both similar rounds, with both fighters keeping it on the feet. No one fighter seems to be extra dominant, but Gomi has the slightest edge over Aurelio standing. Aurelio though, at the end of round 1, easily gets the double leg takedown into side control just as the bell sounds. 2nd round includes more of the same, except whenever Aurelio gets pushed to the ground (takedown defense by Gomi) or ends up on the ground, Gomi just kicks his thighs, never ventures past Aurelio's guard for a stomp.

Gomi WINS via split decision, 2-1 Gomi

Also, I only watched one other match, which was the reserve bout for the WWGP, Hector Lombard VS Gegard Mousasi. Lombard really needs to train some striking, he showed some flashes of natural boxing ability in the fight. But he also got owned with Mousasi's knees to the body in the clinch, but Lombard's huge muscles probably protected him (haha). Mousasi also spent most of the fight with backmount on Lombard, striking him or going for the rear naked choke. Lombard looked unimpressive, yet again, on the ground despite being a Cuban National Judo Champion, and on the feet, where it didn't look like he trained much. I guess Judo is mostly about getting your opponent on the ground, but Lombard didn't even do that well - use Judo to take Mousasi down. At least Nastula trains for that, implements it, and is good on the ground.
Mousasi wins via unanimous decision.

I just wanna comment on the WWGP. Even though I though Kang was great and would've won it if he had no injuries, you have to give credit to Misaki. Although he got beat more often than not when Kang was fresher in the first round, his stamina (and luck with no injuries) paid off in the second round. I just feel bad for Kang and that unlucky injury.
The same goes for Filho, he was a monster, with that out-of-nowhere armbar and mount on Misaki in their match. Unlucky injury though. So even if he did make the finals, we'd be seeing two hobbling, injured fighters in Fillho and Kang.
I hope there's a rematch of some sort....Filho and Kang? Or Kang and Misaki? Man..this means Henderson's contender is logically Misaki as he won the WWGP, but he's already beaten him. Oh well.

Great show though (at least the fights I watched). The finals was incredibly emotional with the two guys slugging it out near the end, and with Kang's near perfect armbar.

Kang should have won by default considering Misaki lost to Filho...and Gomi winning split decision after constantly stuffing takedowns...obvious biased in trying to protect their champ...Pride = Crap! take that Supreme

Filho is still undefeated, may Matt Hughes be his next opponent.

yeah Matt walks around at like 185-190, so i think a fight with him and Filho would be good. that's where your point you made before about split organizations sucks cuz we the fans are deprived of these great fights!

that's not how tourneys work. Misaki lost, but was able to move on due to injury. I don't know what Mousasi's(reserve match winner) excuse was for not filling in for the injured Filho, but props to Misaki for stepping up. He definitely deserved the win, in a very good match with Kang.

I was rooting for Aurelio, but Gomi definitely deserved the split decision. Neither fighter did much, but Aurelio did pretty much nothing besides 2 take downs. He would get his take downs stuff and that made Gomi look good, because he would proceed to kick the shit out of Aurelio's legs till the ref would break, and stand Aurelio up. It was a lackluster fight either way. Aurelio and Gomi were both very tentitive.

as far as PRIDE= crap, how would you know? You've stated many times you don't even watch it.

its good to see that the only MW to beat Hendo gets to fight him for the belt, even if he didnt deserve the fight that he won to win the GP.

plus i'm pissed that i didnt get to see Kang vs Filho. if that is not on the next bushido as a contendership matchup, i will be fucking pissed

I could see Misaki/Hendo III happening at Shockwave 06. Then the winner going on to fight the winner of a Kang/Filho match if they do indeed set that match up. That would be a perfect scenerio IMO.
