People are too uptight. It's a word, a noise that you make with your mouth. It's obvious that he didn't mean to hurt the homo community.
Just because out of anger he called someone a faggot doesn't mean that people will stop watching/paying for his product.
Sure the media is going to have a field day with this, but they should really worry about real stories. But real stories aren't entertaining enough and Americans love be to entertained. That's exactly why North Americans prefer the UFC over MMA, because the UFC is as concerned about the entertainment value (advertising, hypetrain, drama), as well as the MMA-aspect of it's product. That's why they have been so successful.
It's a phenomenon that other org haven't quite been able to grasps. Except for Elite XC, they marketed the shit out of Kimbo, built up the drama, But they folded like a house of cards because he just couldn't back up the MMA-aspect, hence they lost all credibility.
