Hughes handled Sakurai pretty good, who is a much better matchup to fight Hughes, because he's more experienced, better off his back and better on the ground overall.
Hughes would embarass Gomi pretty good. unless Gomi showed up with BJ Penn level TD defense and showed Hughes what KO power feels like, Gomi would get taken down and tapped in 2 minutes, his wrestling is too good, and he's just way too strong
now i love Gomi, but the styles do not match up well for Gomi. hes shown that he's terrible off his back, and what is Hughes' game plan? put him there and tap him
unless Hughes goes retarded and tries to stand and trade until he gets KTFOd, Hughes takes this one.

Hughes I think knows when to let his hands go and when not to and I think he would realize very quick that throwing punches with Gomi would be a very bad decision. But your right, sometimes fighters try to fight without thinking of what the best gameplan would be to win a fight...

I agree with the majority on this thread... Hughes would for sure overwhelm Gomi. He'd use his raw power to ground Gomi and then just pound him.

i'm sure he was like 5-10 lbs lighter when he was in Shooto, before he hit his stride, but upon joining Pride, he said his goal was to bulk up some.
