Default Wrestlers could do MMA...maybe

It's not fair to say that no pro wrestlers would stand a chance in MMA. First, these guys are incredible athletes, as someone already astutely pointed out. Second, we don't know what skills they might possess. Granted, it would be ridiculous for someone to attempt to hit a Stone Cold Stunner or a piledriver in an MMA fight, and they'd likely pay dearly for their foolishness, but we don't know whether these guys are trained in "shoot" fighting outside of the ring. Al Snow, for example, has been involved in training guys for MMA fights in the past. Yes, based on the type of things we see pro wrestlers doing in the ring, it would seem extremely unlikely that they'd do well - but these guys are incredible athletes, and some of them likely have impressive skills that they don't showcase in the ring. Remember, unless people are absolute fanatics, they'll probably go where the money is, and, until fairly recently, pro wrestling looked a lot better than MMA as far as money goes. That said, it isn't tough to imagine that some of your better athletes would have migrated there instead of to MMA. The same could be said of boxers (actually, to a much greater extent). We don't know what they could be capable of - specially if they ever received legitimate MMA training. If Boxing and Pro Wrestling stopped existing tommorrow and all of the guys who are there now got dumped into MMA and started training for it legitimately, I think you might see some surprising champions a few years down the road.

But just because a guy is big and strong...doesn't make him an MMA contender either. Lots of guys have tried to cross over and some do well...but most fail miserably.

Micheal Jordan was no baseball player, Brock Lesnar was no football player, Ken Shamrock was no pro wrestler, (Hulk Hogan was no actor...lol)...the list goes on.

But you made a valid point...in the past - when they had a family to support, and the pro sport organization or team owners didn't want them or never offered to pay them any real money...a lot of guys chose pro wrestling because it still paid the bills.

If you go and look at Tito's old interview about him, Dana, and the UFC...he pretty much sums it up for the guys in MMA.

If the owners are making huge amounts from the fans at he gate, from pay-for-views, from dvd's and other merchandising - then why isn't the fighter getting a fair piece of all of that?

After all - it's his blood all over the canvas, he is the one doing all the training, and he is the one risking everthing for the fans.

Pro wrestling is just as bad..Vince McMahon is doing the same to his guys now that he has bought out his competition...he is cheating his guys out of their money now too.

And by the time most of these guys are in their mid-thirties - regardles off what type of pro athlete they are - their pro career is done...and if they didn't make enough to put some away for them and their family's future - they are all screwed.

It's a pity owners don't respect these guys as much as their fans do.

If the average fan had a clue just what percentage of every dollar he spent that his favorite guy actually got - and how much the owner kept all for himself....he would probably be pissed.

How is it a cross-over? Brock Lesnar is just like any other Wrestler trying to become an MMA fighter.

Default Wrestlers/MMA

I didn't think Ken was that bad as a wrestler. Sure, he had the charisma of your average block of cheese, but his workrate was good. Has there been any real talk about Lesnar doing MMA? I would love to see that. I would also love to see Bill Goldberg come in and get whupped by someone 1/2 his size so that he'd finally realize that he isn't the character he portrayed in WcW. I thought that Sean O'Haire had actually won a few MMA fights. But, in all fairness, he was never much of a pro wrestler either.

Shamrock was a good wrestler but he has a bad attitude. I think after 61 where he is left broken by Ortiz he'll learn from his mistakes. I hope at least. I think its too late though.

I enjoyed Ortiz's wrestling appearances more though, mainly because I thought I should check into MMA and see what Ortiz was all about. That got me into UFC then.

Tito has a very unique character but he at least gave his fighters good training and support. He did it to help the fighters, unlike Ken. Its hard not to say Tito has a attitude after watching the post-match antics v. Guy Mezger. They both have had their bad moments but Ken has fallen far. I agreed with everything Tito said at the end of the second episode last night basically.
