doesnt look like theres many hughes fans anymore. i think hughes will get swick down pretty easily and keep him down for the win. gsp vs hughes again isnt very interesting but a rematch with alves wouldnt be that bad, hughes wasnt destroyed like everyone claims he was.. he hurt his knee and everyone acts like he got ktfo.

The last time Swick fought a good wrestler, he lost. We all saw that Swick does not offer that much from the bottom after being taken down. I think Hughes saw that too and will probably make it a point to keep Swick down. Hughes wins a pretty boring decision here.

. | I believe he was over weight due to a knee injury, which kinda makes him deserve the asterisk,I think.Good points though.

rd | You're right when you say it also takes technique but Matt Hughes take downs don't require much speed. His most effective way of getting it to the mat is to muscle his opponent against the fence grab a hold of him and use his strength to slam him. The Machida/Tito example is a bad one. Machida was very conservative when choosing his strikes and always kept a good distance. Swick is a much more agressive striker that will leave more opening for the takedown. Also Matt Hughes is much better wrestler then Tito.

No way Hughes can either take Swick down or keep up with him on the feet. Just...no way.

Hughes by KO?If that happens, Matt Serra now becomes a top 5 WW......

You seem to forget Hughes is slowing down and on the brink of retirement. With a less than stellar performance against Serra and his last couple of opponents he hasnt shown me anything that leads me to believe hes going to dominate Swick.
Anyways lets see if im right come ppv time
Prediction: Swick knocks Hughes out quicker than GSP did.

Serra is a pretty good grappler, and Hughes pretty thoroughly dominated him in that department. However I agree, they both looked slow, and Swick is very explosive. I'm a huge Hughes fan, but I think he's just over the hill now and Swick beats him up.
Btw wrestling is almost entirely about leverage, which can be created through technique, speed, and strength, technique by far being the most important of the 3. Its not like all these top wrestlers who enter the UFC are somehow superior in strength or speed to their opponents who they dominate on the ground, they have just learned many nuances to controlling people through training and competing in wrestling for most of their lives.

This does not look good for Hughes. I think he's gonna get DROPPED.
