| Rumor - Swick to face former UFC welterweight champ Matt Hughes Quote:
Mike Swick has always been on the cusp of greatness, and has beaten some of the toughest competition the UFC has to offer. However his biggest test looks as if it will come to former champ Matt Hughes.
In an article on Inside Fights stating that Cain Velasquez would face Shane Carwin, it was suggested that the pair will square off at UFC 103.
“The bout, which has not been agreed to, could potentially serve as the co-main event alongside a welterweight bout between Texas native Mike Swick and future UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes.”
This would surely launch Mike Swick to a number one contenders slot in the welterweight division. With Alves fighting GSP at UFC 100 and Jon Fitch had his chance before that, it is likely that the winner of the Swick/Hughes match up will get at shot at the 170lb belt.

I hope this is true because I have been calling for this matchup for a while. Swick by R1 KO.

Didn't I just post in here...No wait that was the "other" guy who needs to retire.
I really like this dude Swick and have respect for Hughes. But this will most likely be two things. Either a very NON technical, boring matchup or a quick 1 round TKO.

IF Hughes can get Swick down he could win that fight. I do not want to see Hughes fight GSP again though. Im not sure I want to see him fight Thiago either. Im a huge Hughes fan and thought he would throw Serra around the cage witch didnt happen. I dont really want to see Hughes get anymore beatdowns.

I could digest Swick getting a shot at the WW belt if he wins, but Hughes? He gets sub'd by GSP, KO'd by Alves, wins a UD over Serra and then with a win over Swick, he's back into title contention? Hell no. If Swick wins, he gets the shot. If Swick loses, but Fitch wins, Fitch gets the shot. I dont give a shit if Hughes KO's Swick in 5 seconds, Hughes does not deserve a title shot. Period. If Hughes wins, Fitch gets the shot and Hughes gets Kampmann or Koscheck. Nobody wants to see GSP or Alves devour Hughes again. Nobody.

Much better than Swick beating Goulet, Saunders and even Hughes.
