A motivated Diaz is a dangerous fighter. I will forever liked Diaz, because of his fights with Karo, Lawler, & Diego. Those 3 fights were really really good, and Nick played a different role for each one.
In the Lawler fight, Nick got in Robbie's head. He played mindgames with him throughout those 2 rounds.
In the Karo fight, he played both defensive & offensive fighter. His striking was pretty sloppy, but his grappling was really good.
Diaz was on the defensive most of the time against Diego. Nick stayed busy off his back, and was able to pull off some sub attempts.

See, I think they all did enough to win. Diego kept busy on top, and was squirming out of subs left & right.
Sherk had some nice standup against Diaz. Sherk's arms are the size of KFC chicken legs, but he was able to dumbfound an uninspired Nick Diaz.
Riggs stayed busy as well, and landed some huge shots on Diaz.
