Denis Kang talks PRIDE, ATT

American Top Team’s Denis Kang recently won his Pride Welterweight tournament first round fight with a 0:12 KO over Murilo Rua. In the ADCC News archives are several updates with Denis from his participation in the ADCC ’03 North American qualifier through his move to ATT and into Pride. The next round which has two fights for Denis takes place August 26th.

KM: Can you describe your Pride Welterweight tournament round 1 fight?

DK: My plan was to start off stopping his forward momentum with some front leg kicks and straight punches because in previous fights that is what he has done a lot of, come out running with a kick or jumping knee. I threw some punches and they connected, got him a little off balance. I followed up with more punches and knocked him out on the ground, finished it off there.

Kang has the best shot at walking right in and taking Hendo's belt. As a virtual "unknown" Kang brings with him a truck load of talent, his real bread and butter has yet to be seen, so far he hasn't had to use any JJ. The Hendo fight is his ticket, but he's got to stand up to a major test for that fight and Hendo will be ready.

I'm telling you the guy reminds me of GSP so much, and it has nothing to do with him being Canadian. He's the real deal, and I actually have some friends who know the guy. Actually an incident with someone who got their start writing for me at MMANews.com before we shut down for a while. I won't get into it, but originally I kind of disliked Kang by default because my buddy did. Buddy screwed me over though, I finally saw Kang fight, and now I'm in seat #2,391 of the Denis Kang bandwagon.
