I just rewatched last nights HW Title fight between Sylvia and Monson and i must say im very impressed with Jeff Monson. He had a huge size and reach disadvantage to overcome and couldnt have been able to see much out of his right eye pretty early in the fight. He showed alot of heart and went after Tim most of the fight. Sylvia did display a pretty good sprawl and decent ground game but alot of that could be attributed to his size advantage. Alot of people are crowning Vera the next HW champ and he will get his shot but IMO if Monson and Vera fought i think Monson would handle Vera rather quickly prolly choke him out in the first round. I just think Monson is a better fighter right now then Vera. Im looking forward to seeing the Snowman bounce back.

If Sylvia woulda jumped on that standup advantage I would agree with you, but he took too many shots from a guy thats a foot shorter then him for me to believe he can beat Vera, who is another accomplished ADCC fighter, who has a brown belt in BJJ, who is a thai boxer, and is also 6'2.. the reach helped Tim more on the ground and sprawl then it did standing.. Monson hit him too many times.. hes gonna get hit by Vera who is a lot faster, can get him in a MT clinch, and is just versitile.. I cant see Sylvia's chin takin' Vera's punishment.. nor can I see his striking defense helping him. Tim's sprawl was impressive, ill give him that the guy obviously trains hard.. and for a big guy that jogs like hes about to trip over himself his cardio is pretty good, but he was throwing too many lazy punches against a guy who is again a foot shorter then him.. safe pick looks like Vera to me.

you misunderstood me, i was saying that i think Monson would beat Vera not Sylvia beat Vera. I think Sylvia/Vera will be a pretty good fight prolly pretty close, I would take Sylvia just cause i dont think Vera can KO him and it prolly would go to decision the way Tim has been fighting. My main point was I just think Sylvia is the worse matchup in the UFC for Monson because of the height and reach disadvantages.

I agree 100%. Like I said in another post, many people thought Sylvia would get a round 1 or 2 KO and Monson would be toast. Monson got Tim down and went 5 rounds with him. He deserves the utmost respect and he is a true warrior.

Monson looked terrible, he got gassed out quickly and did nothing in the guard. His shots were terrible and he needed to go for more submissions. The only reason he didnt get more messed up was because Sylvia only threw a few punches in each round. Im sorry but if the ref has to stop both fighters and tell them they are in a fight and to start fighting, then both fighters become lame in my eyes. I hope Aleksander comes from Pride to UFC and kills Sylvia. That was one of the lamest UFC title bouts I have ever seen. Monson did nothing and Sylvia did just enough to win.

Look, he did the best he could. It's not his fault he can't punch Sylvia in the face from the guard. When he got side control, he could have mounted Sylvia, I'll give you that, but we all knew Monson didn't have the best cardio and he's not that quick. Maybe if he got Tim down in the 1st or 2nd he might have done some damage, but he didn't. He still put up a good fight. If they were the same height, I'd say he did terrible, but considering the height and reach disadvantage, he put up a good fight...

if they were the same hieght Sylvia woulda been done as soon as Jeff got him on the ground, I was shocked when he got him on the ground and couldnt reach his head

Yeah dude, he really could've used a few inches of height in Sylvia's closed guard. He spent enough time there that if he could've punched or dropped elbows, Tim could've been seriously messed up.

I take nothing away from Monson, but now way he beat's Vera. Vera's just way too fast and precise with his striking for monson. And Timmy better carry the belt with him everywhere he goes cause Vera's going to rip him to shreds.
