If GSP goes for the olympics, he will have to quit everything else, no more striking or BJJ, 24/7 wrestling only. Which could easily mean he could lose his edge in both striking and BJJ. If he is serious about the Olympics, he is going to need to quit MMA ASAP and focus soley on wrestling. And to quit for two years or so on MMA, while Alves, Fitch, Kos, and Shields focus on MMA, I think they will not only catch up on him but destory him.

OMG. Are there any other wrestler on this board besides me? First let me say, GSP has won me over. I thought he was a pretty boy with a glass chin. But the guy is a monster. Yes he has the explosiveness, and freakish athletic ability, but wrestling in the olympics?
Wrestling becomes like walking for those of us who have been doing it pre-teen. I help with a high school team, and work with MMA fighters on their takedowns. There's more to it than "moves". It's weight distribution, balance, and exploding through a move. It's hard for me to teach this to some of these guys.
My guess is GSP wouldn't be one of THEM. He would catch on immediately, which I believe is demonstrated by his MMA wrestling ability. However, this may aggravate some people. GSP couldn't beat Matt Hughes in a straight up wrestling match.
I understand that based on their last match up that may sound crazy to some of you. I mean that throw looked impressive. However, watch the fight. The throw came as Hughes blocked what he thought was a punch coming. That's what makes GSP so great at MMA wrestling. He'll hit you from anywhere. There's that fear. In that throw from the whizzer, he stepped beyond the opposite foot. That's Fundamentally incorrect. In a wrestling match against a skilled opponent he would have ended up on his back. Now the argument could be made that he wouldn't have done that in a real wrestling match. But i'm not convinced of this. He hit that throw instinctively. When you step behind the other mans opposite foot with the whizzer in you're giving up and underhook throw or simple level change bringing the other guy to his back.
To compete on an olympic level he would have to change the way he wrestles on the basic level, which may actually effect his effectiveness in MMA adversely.
Saying alllllll of that. Once in a long while, and exception comes along. Perhaps he'll prove me wrong.
