| What Does Kimbo Slice Have To Do To Make You Believe
What does Slice have to do to possibly convert you into believing he might actually have a productive career in the UFC and or be considered in contention?
First and foremost, before even considering who he has to beat or anything, he must show that he is able to keep mount while on top of an average ground fighter. I'm not sold on him yet consideringhe can't keep mount anytime he gets it, despite his suttle improvement on the ground. After that I have to disagree with Bas Rutten and say that the only way Kimbo Slice even has a glimmer of being succesfull is to drop to LHW. He must beat another can or two (while still showing improvement) and then a fighter with absolutely only wrestling (O'Brien for example). Assuming he gets through those and survives a def. LnP attack, the light in which I view Kimbo Slice will change.

1. Not gas during a three round fight
2. Show some sincere athleticism in his fights and intellectual gamesmanship
3. Beat somebody of legitimate ranking and skill

I think Kimbo has to do what any fighter should do to impress the fans, which boarders on what Gomipierre said above. Though I will note that Kimbo is at a disadvantage considering so much marketing/hype has been placed around him as being this thug warrior that people expect so much... It's sorta unfair in the sense that he never came out and said he was this great fighter from the get go; as a matter of fact I remember an interview where he stated he was a small fish in this big game so I can't fault the guy for being paid but at the same time, I can understand the spite some "hardcore fans" have against him. However, I think it's immature/stupid and a person should be smart enough to not hate someone or something because of marketing, especially if they never encouraged it to begin with.
Sorta off track here but I really think he needs to be placed at the same standard as every other fighter that's climbed up the rank as he still has much to learn.

He's already proven that he can put butts in the seats so to speak. As for convincing me, that's going to be one tall order. That doesn't mean that I'm going to belittle him until he does, it just means that with his age and what I've seen thus far I just can't say that I'm expecting him to improve enough to be in the top 15 or 20 at heavyweight.
He has cardio issues, his ground skills haven't really materialized, and aside from having a decent punch he's not really got the chin or even the striking defense yet.
I wish him well, but I think he'll be around as a curiosity more than a future contender.

he just needs to come in with a gameplan and not try to take peoples heads off. if he does that he'll be fine but people who rush in for the kill too early usually lose later on and most importantly he needs to improve on his mental strength because he keeps on apologizing to the crowds for his match against Houston which he's worried about living up to the hype and to entertain more than the actual "W". I think in his mind he still thinks he has to prove himself but in all reality i seriously think if he trains hard maybe he could be a success story after all especially if he's working at ATT. give him luiz cane already |

I think he's already taken a couple of small steps in making me believe. He went to train with ATT, and in his latest fight he showed much more patience with his striking and showed improvement in his grappling. Seriously, I figured Alexander would maul him in the first round, trapping him in the clinch and putting him to sleep with some knees. So either I underestimated Kimbo, or overestimated Alexander (actually it was probably both lol). In any case, he impressed me more with actual MMA skills in that fight than any of his previous ones, which really isn't saying much, but regardless I gotta give the man credit.
Still though, he has a long way to go before I would consider him a serious contender for most UFC fighters. I agree with rodzilla1988, he's gonna need to be able to deal with wrestling before he moves forward in the UFC ranks. Until then, I really don't see him going very much farther in the UFC than just being a marketing tool.

He needs to drop down, for sure, IMO. He needs to keep training - even with ll his talk his training seems like it wasn't what it could have been. Not that ATT was at fault, but I don't think he submits to discipline and the consistency in training like other fighters do. If he does those things he has an opportunity here to really improve. We'll see.

He dosent have to do anything. He already did it. He admitted that he wasnt a MMA fighter, that he was just a brawler, and went out and became a mixed martial artist. He rode the gravy train when it came to EXC, but so would have anyone. He went on TUF and was put up against the hardest fight for him,and tried. Then he continued to train, and after TUF went to a decent camp, and continue to try very hard. Hes done what any other fighter would have. To expect more is bullshit.
