Jens Pulver vs. Javier Vazquez in the works for WEC 47 in March | MMAjunkie.com
The WEC recently announced that MMA legend Jens Pulver (22-12 MMA, 1-4 WEC) will return to action at "WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz" in March. |
Now he's got an opponent.
MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the organization that Pulver will meet fellow featherweight Javier Vazquez (13-4 MMA, 0-2 WEC) on the evening's main card.
Verbal agreements are in place, thought bout agreements have yet to be signed.
Featuring a bantamweight title fight between current champ Brian Bowles and top competitor Dominick Cruz, WEC 47 takes place March 6 in Columbus, Ohio. The main card airs on Versus.
A former UFC lightweight champion, Pulver has struggled to a 1-4 mark in the WEC after dropping to the featherweight division in December 2007. Of course, Pulver hasn't exactly faced many pushovers since joining the organization. Pulver lost a pair of contests to former featherweight champ Urijah Faber, and one fight each to current contenders Josh Grispi and Leonard Garcia.
Pulver is a nine-time UFC veteran and has also fought four times under the PRIDE banner.
Meanwhile, Vazquez looks to rebound from a pair of razor-thin split-decision losses to Deividas Taurosevicius and L.C. Davis. Prior to the defeats, "Showtime," who's posted nine stoppages in 13 career victories, had posted a four-fight win streak, which included a pair of wins in the now-defunct Pro Elite organization.
With the addition to the card, WEC 47 now includes:
Champ Brian Bowles vs. Dominick Cruz (for bantamweight title)
Joseph Benavidez vs. Miguel Torres
Jens Pulver vs. Javier Vazquez*
