I'm the guy who orders events with friends or goes to bars/Hooters/Dave and Busters/Fridays/etc. So events never cost me anything or... $5 lol. For me, it isn't a problem.
That being said, the UFC is never going to put a dent in this thing. Most of the streams are happening overseas and things of that nature. For the most part, they can't do much.
Here's an idea UFC, lower your rate and more people will order it. Sorry, but it is $50 for 3 hours. And I love MMA, but they are nuts if they think that 12x$50=$600 a year on their PPVs is fair to the fans just to keep up with one organization. That's the crime.
Knock it down to $35 an event and it is reasonable. That's 12x$35=$420 a year. Hell, make deals where people can order every event ahead of time for $400. If they want to fix this, they need to start making things affordable for the fans who want to watch every event.

granted they are trying to involve NFL, MLB, and more to lobby to lawmakers to fight this.... But that is just local and retarded, because there will always be some bumpkus 3rd world country with little or no copywrite laws.
The amusing part about this is, IF indeed they do succeed in closing down every single illegal stream, all those people are going to go to a friends house or a bar or a restaurant and catch it for free anyways or on somebody elses dollar. So in retrospect, the money they will be losing will just be the money they pump in to cancelling the illegal streams because the article just told every single person how to still see it for free and without the gay graininess of internet feeds. hah.... betcha didn't see that coming...
The only streams I watch online are the Japanese events because I don't get HDNet in my area for some dumbass reason. The rest of the time I'll be at BDubbs eatin chicken. Thats why you'll only see me post in the live events topics when its a Japanese event lol.
Edit: the reason I don't care being in a loud ass restaurant for the fights is that I mute the damn TV when I watch it at home anyways cuz Goldie just straight up hurts my brain...

Seriously, there is one thing that pisses me off more than anything else in this world. Millionaires (and billionaires) complaining that they arent making enough millions. Then to throw salt on the wound they add in the bs about losing jobs and hurting the company. Meanwhile the top of the organization keeps pulling in million dollar salaries and cutting everyone elses salary to keep the company "profitable".
If they go through with this i will give a big FU to UFC and stop watching their programming on Spike (which is friggin free and nets them millions of dollars in advertising revenue). I will only watch UFC programming ONLINE on sites that give nothing to the UFC. You cant stop the internet.
*I wonder what Joe Rogan has to say about this? He seems to be someone who is ok with streaming content online.

I pay for every PPV that comes up. I have since UFC 40. This includes all other organizations too. In Canada we even have to pay for Strikeforce (or used to). My bill gets a little high.
I would def like it if they just dropped the cost a little. ordering HD is even 5 bucks more.
There are other options though. Fight night parties, everyone chips in. Watch it at a lounge or bar, personally I hate it because of stupid people. Or come on over to my place everyone is welcome! I wont even charge you. Ive got a 46 LCD with suround sound, better than the bar.

I haven't bought a PPV since UFC 104 because they haven't put one on that I've felt justified forking over $45 for. UFC 109 will be no different. My thinking w/ PPVs is the same as movies. If I go to the movies or rent a Blu-Ray from Blockbuster and it completely sucks, will I get my money back? Not a chance in hell. I may stream 109 or since it sucks so much, I may just play Call of Duty instead. But if I do stream and get a letter from Zuffa's legal department, they won't be getting any of my money ever again.
I'm sure this will only apply to PPVs as well. You'd think that if they were serious about stopping the illegal use of their product and lost revenue, they'd team up with Spike and Versus to put an end to streaming of WEC and UFN cards too. I mean, look at all the advertising revenue they're losing from people streaming those shows! But we all know they won't.
The other thing that really irks me is when I do fork over the money to watch a PPV (for example, UFC 100) and then they show it FOR FREE on Spike a month or two later for the sole purpose of trying to scav viewers from another promotion's big card. That's a dick move and a slap in the face to the people who paid to watch the fight. It's bullshit like that that made me a little more selective in my PPV purchasing.
I'll laugh my ass off if Strikeforce comes out next week and announces a partnership w/ a company to allow people to purchase a stream of their January show for like $10. |

| YES!
I forgot about that. I paid like 60 bucks for UFC 100, and then it got aired on Spike not that much later. It barely was changed, they just cut out alot of the talking. And SF shows on CBS trump most Spike cards.

LOL! Dana's gonna spend more money fighting this than he'd spend on his own fighters. Sorry Dana, but like you said "Don't ever feel sorry for a millionaire!" |

MMA has grown to a point where they won't be able to monopolize North American exposure to it for much longer. Everybody knows that strikeforce is becoming a quality organization and airs cards on network tv or premium cable. The UFC really gets to me with they way they treat theirs fans and fighters, and I don't have a problem with not paying $50 for each card that comes out, but with the support I do give them I believe I should be allowed to experience more of the sport than they say I am currently able to. Hence torrents and streams.

Dana's got no hope in hell. He's still clueless about the power of the internet!
You can't stop the internet! He should talk to Joe Rogan about that.
Thank you so much Dana for the free ppvs! I'm loving 'em! |
