Might as well, who else is going to fight BJ at this point?

Gomi definitely needs to prove he can still strike and that he has worked on his ground game before he gets a chance at Penn. Sherk would give him an opportunity to show both aspects I think. There's so much talent in the LW division though that it's really totally up in the air. Looking through the roster I can see potentially about 5-8 good and logical fights. and about 5 fights that would be good but total mismatches of style and probably kill Gomi on the ground. All I can say is I sure hope he's been training his ass off at take down defense because he'll need it.

Last time they fought, it was basically all Penn. Since then, Penn has improved leaps and bounds, and Gomi, who did improve, hasn't looked impressive/has been up and down since Marcus Aurelio dominated him a few years back.
I think Gomi isn't going to give Penn much of a fight anymore. Do I think Gomi can work his way to the belt? Yes. But I don't think he'll beat Penn.

He just needs to go back to what got him to the top. Once he realizes he is a wrestler and not a boxer he'll start putting together some win streaks.

He would be crazy to get in there with Bj for his first fight...I would give him someone like Sherk first to see where's he's at and get his ufc jitters out then Sanchez just cuz that would be a war I've always wanted to see but he will probably get Bj his second fight and I think Bj 2.0 will ko gomi and anyone else
at 155 till he retires

Although this ALL depends on if Gomi's legit in his committment. He's SO fucking talented and DANGEROUS, but really seems to check in and out of caring depending on his mood. We'll all see how GOOD Gomi cares to be in the UFC within the first half of his first round. He'll either come out flatter than FLAT or like a legitimate FIREBALL. | Gomi is still relevant, but I don't see anyone in the UFC's LW division not named BJ Penn having a ghost of a chance subbing Florian. On top of that, I don't think his wrestling is the liability it used to be; he threw Joe Stevenson, thought to be the better all-around grappler, around at will in their fight. And all doubts about his striking power should have been laid to rest in the Guida fight.
Still a great fight, and there are a number of intangibles that we aren't necessarily seeing yet.

Nobody is dominating him either, not even on stand up (other than BJ, but that doesnt count at this point! BJ is KILLING everyone everywhere (except GSP at WW, but who cares, GSP is KILLING everyone everywhere in WW)).
Also, nobody is "beating" Sherk except BJ. A decision is someone's opinion. It's an unfinished fight. I always think, fuck a decision!
