Default Swick/Alves, Marquardt/Sonnen official for UFC 109

Swick vs. Thaigo official for UFC 109; Marquardt vs. Sonnen promoted to co-feature slot | MMAjunkie.com
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The UFC today officially announced a recently reported contest between welterweights Mike Swick (14-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) and Paulo Thiago (12-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) for February's "UFC 109: Relentless" event.

Swick stepped in as a replacement for Josh Koscheck when his teammate was forced off the card with an injury.

While Koscheck and Thiago were originally scheduled in the evening's co-main event, the organization has promoted a middleweight fight between top contenders Nate Marquardt (29-8-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) and Chael Sonnen (24-10-1 MMA, 3-3 UFC) to the co-feature slot.

Featuring a main event between UFC Hall-of-Famers Mark Coleman and Randy Couture, "UFC 109: Relentless" takes place Feb. 6 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on pay per view.

With the newly confirmed bout, UFC 109 now includes:

MAIN CARD

•Mark Coleman vs. Randy Couture
•Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
•Mike Swick vs. Paulo Thiago
•Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller
•Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg

PRELIMINARY CARD
•Justin Buchholz vs. Mac Danzig
•Melvin Guillard vs. Ronnys Torres
•Rob Emerson vs. Phillipe Nover
•Phil Davis vs. Brian Stann
•Tim Hague vs. Chris Tuchscherer
•Rolles Gracie vs. Mostapha Al Turk
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are a lot of intriging fights on this card. If it was free, it would be a real good card. But for $50....not so much. Really want to see the Davis/Stann and Gracie/Turk fights, hope they show those on the prelims on Spike.

Swick is gonna be hungry after his loss, Swick 2nd round KO. Im interested to see how Thiago does if this fight stays standing up. This fight doesn't have the same bang factor as 108 had, but I expect a decent night of fights, nothing special though.

I'm still bummed about Marquardt/Sonnen. To me, that matchup makes NO sense. Just would've liked to have seen a more marquee matchup for Marquardt than Sonnen. That added with Coleman/Couture is another one that makes ZERO sense. Coutre has nothing to gain by beating Coleman. There are other potential contenders ranked way higher than Coleman that would've been available for Couture. There better be 10+ at the house I go to. I dont feel like paying over $5 for this card.

i agree with ya on the marquardt/sonnen fight. nate is getting shafted with this. it is a step back for him imo.

but, nate is one of my fav fighters so i will prob buy the fight jus for him alone! lolz

and coleman/couture may not make the most of sence, but it will be a cool old man fight! randy should be able to tool him around the cage so that should be cool to watch too!

•Mark Coleman vs. Randy Couture - Makes no sense. Couture gains nothing from beating Coleman.
•Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen - Makes no sense. Nate gains nothing beating Chael.
•Mike Swick vs. Paulo Thiago - I always like watching Swick fight(and seeing Paulo's enormous ears).
•Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller - When Demians not getting knocked out in the blink of an eye I love to see his subs.
•Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg - 2 punk ass bitches fighting. I hope for a Double Knockout.

•Tim Hague vs. Chris Tuchscherer - Kick 'em in the balls Tim.
•Rolles Gracie vs. Mostapha Al Turk - Interesting (???)

Yea but to be fair to Sonnen he did destroy Akomi. A lot of people here thought Akomi was the number 1 contender.

i wouldnt buy the card. Find a stream, or get a bunch of guys to pitch in or something. I say thiago handling Swick, Donno why...and Nate making short work of chael, but id kind of like to see sonnen win, I like the upsets sometimes
