James 'The Sandman' Irvin Set To Return In*March - SB Nation

Jan 8, 2010 - Per MMA Weekly:

Injuries and a suspension kept James Irvin out of action for all of 2009, but the heavy handed striker is looking to finally make his middleweight debut as he returns to action in the UFC this March.

Irvin's return was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Thursday by sources close to the fighter, who indicated "The Sandman" would fight on either the March 21 card set for Versus, or at UFC 111 in Newark, NJ.

Irvin has not fought since July of 2008, when he was the first man to welcome Anderson Silva to the 205 lb. division. Following his brutal knockout defeat at the hands of Silva, Irvin tested positive for steroids and was subsequently suspended.

"The Sandman" was set to make his debut at the 185 lb. division at UFC 98 against Drew McFedries, but had to pull out due to a back injury.

Wow, how misguided can you be? Get your facts straight before you make a FUCKING ass out of yourself. Irvin tested positive for methadone and oxymorphone which he was using for pain. He not only trained but fought through back and foot injuries AND stepped in to fight Anderson Silva when FOUR fighters turned down the fight. Google search once and a while, shit.

i still don't think the ends justified the means. a suspension, i'm assuming a fine, people calling him a roid head, and he didn't even put up a fight.

no matter which way you spin it he still broke the rules put forth by the sanctioning body, so he's a cheater. if he couldn't fight within the guidelines then he shouldn't have accepted the fight, but he did, so now people who don't do their "research" and only read the articles that YOU post which specifically state that he got suspended for STEROIDS not pain killers, will believe such.

The point was don't state roids when it was pain killers. At least thats how I took it.

how was he supposed to know when the article on the website he checks for news states it was steroids?

if it meant that much to sakara he could have put his own message correcting the article he forwarded.

Goddamn I'm glad he's back because he's one tough SOB and is explosive as fuck. A Leban or Quarry showdown or maybe a JMac return would be sick.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they throw in Belcher or Gouvia to really jackup the first Versus card.

Always rooting for this guy and he's always good for a solid fight.

I dont care that he broke the rules and I didnt even read the article. But he's not a roid head.....let me restate that, he didnt get busted for roids.
