Dana White confirmed that Edgar will receive the next 155-pound title shot against champion BJ Penn. There had been talk of Gray Maynard facing Penn next, but in a video interview shot Tuesday in New York City, White said he didn't think Maynard was 100% ready to fight for the title just yet.

You know whats going to happen. BJ is going to take someone to lightly, and not come in shape, while the challenger will be super ready, and it'll bite him in the ass. Is Edgar that guy to make BJ not train?

I'm so glad Edgar got the shot over Griffin or Gray, because I think he's the most talented and exciting of the three and is somebody who I think at least is something of a challenger to BJ in comparison to Gray or Griffin. I think Gray/Florian and Diego/Griffin work well. I really think Gomi should be saved and just challenge Penn since that appears to be the only fight he's really interested in, although then you're introducing a relative unknown w/i the mainstream UFC audience, it may be good to start him off with an explosive intro prior to throwing him in there with the champ.
