Video: Dana White Can't Stand/Is Totally Pumped About This Kimbo Slice Guy


George Orwell once said, “To see what is front of one’s nose needs a really good internet video editor.” Since he said this long before the invention of the internet, it probably confused the hell out of people. But as this new video from Lookoutawhale demonstrates, once more Orwell turns out to be right and everyone who doubted him feels like an idiot.

It’s not that we didn’t know how dramatically Dana White’s opinion of a guy can change once the opportunity to make money off of him presents itself. He’s a fight promoter. Hyping stuff, sometimes through gross exagerrations of the truth, is what he does. We knew this. But something about seeing the contrast between what DW claimed to believe about Kimbo Slice before he was in the UFC and what he had to say about him after he signed on for "The Ultimate Fighter" really slammed the point home. White is a salesman, and salesmen tend to value honesty less than they value sales.

Again, we knew this. It’s just probably a good idea to remind ourselves every once in a while.

Less than a min in I can understand the difference in what White is saying. "Kimbo can't fight (implying he's not very good as he's referencing his loss to Seth" and "The one thing we know about Kimbo Slice is that this guy is a fighter, he will come to fight (implying that he fights when he is in the situation but doesn't bare judgement on his skills)" This is also backed up by his statement saying "Kimbo is a fighter, I know he's a fighter is he a mixed martial artist, we're going to find out".

Seems like White is comparing skills with the act of fighting...

Had to watch the whole thing it was so funny. TUF 10 put me off buying UFC cards for awhile, hard to want to put money in Dana's pockets, was getting pretty tired of the will Kimbo fight crap.

If Dana was a used car saleman, I have a feeling I would be pushing a car home with no engine and no warranty after visiting the car lot.

We all know that Dana White is going to contradict himself because he is a fight promoter. We have to remember that this is about money and Kimbo Slice is a huge draw for African-Americans like myself and many other posters on this web site. We can relate to his struggle because we have all been there and we continue to be there in the arduous times that we are facing today. Not to be racially biased, but a lot of Caucasian people do not have to be told they can do anything because they already know. Well it is quite different for African-Americans because before President Barack Obama, we do not believe that we can do anything. Now that this has finally occurred, we know we can do anything and we see this in a guy like Kimbo who wants to prove that he is a legitimate fighter. That is really the main story behind a guy like Kimbo.

Dana really didn't do anything out of the ordinary in this whole sequence. There are many better examples of hypocrisy out there if someone wants to make a GOOD Dana-hating video.

1. He said that Kimbo sucks as an MMA fighter - TRUE, though he has slightly improved recently
2. He said that Kimbo could only get into the UFC via TUF - TRUE
3. He said that Kimbo would lose in TUF - TRUE
4. He said that we would see if Kimbo was just a fighter or an MMA fighter - TRUE, and he was just a fighter as Dana originally said

He did hedge his bets a little when hyping Kimbo by emphasizing that he is "a fighter", but that is little more than a different way of saying "he tries hard". I would have much less respect for Dana if he said "These guys both suck, so let's watch and see who sucks less today". He is a promoter, after all.

Now you could criticize Dana for giving Kimbo fights after TUF, but most people find Kimbo fights interesting for the moment, so why not?

I mean really this isnt the first time hes talked shit about a fighter and had to own up to it. Case and point he said Roy Nelson wasn't all that and the dude ends up making him eat his words by winning TUF.

Please tell me you aren't putting Kimbo Slice in the same category as our President. And this is 2010, it took Kimbo Slice to tell you that you can do something with your life? Yikes.
