how is that so dangerous? yeah its a submission, but its just letting them pass out with a momentary cutoff of blood to the brain. no more risk of complications in the brain then getting punched in the face, or hitting your head on something

and they asked for it

actually it's playing a trick on the brain. A rear naked choke puts pressure against the carotid artery, which causes the body to believe that your blood pressure is too high and it will lower your blood pressure and you'll blackout.

They shouldn't be going around choking people out. In my ju jitsu classes we've had a few "choke classes" and nobody was put to sleep. I came close to going out but didn't. Our instructors demanded we be careful and dont' hold it too long. Just because you think it's "safe" doesn't mean everybody will wake up. Cops are taught chokes and people have died in the hands of properly trained police officers.

YEs the idiots did ask for it, but that doesn't mean you should actually put them to sleep.

RNC defenatly a blood choke, defenatly a pressure point.
in my old system part of what we trained in is called kyusho jitsu, we did losts of practical and advanced pressure point techniques, you can stike people arms and legs in certian places and incapacitate them or buy yourself enough time to over whelm them with something else. we also traing in knock out strikes to the sides of the neck and sometimes the chin, all open hand and very effective. http://www.kempo.org.pl/eng/multimedia.html
there are some videos of tiaka oyata, this is just one site with some of him.

there are pressure point techniques that would work in mma, if someone trained in them

Yea i'm not sure why it's even called a RNC, because technically it's not a choke like others have mentioned. When we were younger, we used to grab each other and block the blood flow and pass out while other caught us when we fell. We did it for fun but it was stupid now that i know what i know. It is very dangerous if it happens too often, it can even be dangerous the first time. Anyone else who was in the military has had pressure point training and unless you do it everyday or very very often you won't be good enough to use it during an mma fight. I've had a lot of pressure point training between my job at the prison here and the military (i took advanced courses because of special assignments) and while i can use them pretty well, they wouldn't even cross my mind in an mma bout or even a fight for that matter.

I've had a number of years in training pressure points. i agree they work, but must be practised. there's a thread called nerve strikes someone just started, in it i said its much easier to pull off a nerve strike/pressure point in a confrentaion against someone not expecting to be hit back. in a fight guys are much more on their guard and people move differently.
